"You know, when I applied to be your personal secretary, stitching up your battle wounds was not exactly what I had in mind, Mr. Wayne." I pushed my glasses up my nose, as I tried to carefully stitch the gash on Bruce Wayne's arm. It hadn't really taken me long to figure out that Bruce Wayne was Batman, I mean, I work as his personal secretary, it was hard not to notice when he would just up and disappear. Thankfully, he trusted me enough to be upfront and honest about it. He had said that he knew he wouldn't be able to keep me in the dark for long anyway.

"Even so, I appreciate you helping me out, Carter. How do you know how to stitch wounds anyway?" He asked. I smirked.

"I took a few CNA courses back in high school. They taught us how to stitch basic wounds." I said. We both looked up when we heard the elevator activate.

"It'll be nice when Wayne Manor is repaired. Then you trade in not sleeping in a penthouse for not sleeping in a manor!" Alfred said, walking over to us. I giggled.

"He has a point, Mr. Wayne." I said.

"Miss Gordon, do you have everything under control here?" Alfred asked. I nodded.

"Yep, sure do Alfred! And I've told you before, please just call me Carter. There, all done Mr. Wayne. Make sure you keep that clean remember!" I said. He nodded.

"Thank you Carter. And I've also told you to just call me Bruce. We've known each other long enough at this point." He said, and I laughed.

"Yeah, I guess you're right." I said. Bruce looked up at the monitors.

"What did this damage, Master Bruce?" Alfred asked, looking at the wound I had just stitched up.

"A dog." He said. I giggled a little, and Bruce turned back to look at me. "It was a big dog!" He said, before turning back to Alfred. "I'll have to talk to Lucius about fixing the armor." He said, then looked at the monitors again. He was watching some news recordings of the new DA Harvey Dent. I zoned out of his conversation with Alfred, as I was trying to make sure I cleaned the tools I'd used to stitch Bruce's wound. Once that was done, I put the first aid kit away, and looked back at Bruce. I flinched seeing all the bruises and scars on his back.

"Know your limits, Master Bruce."

"Batman has no limits."

"Maybe not...but you do."

"Let's hope the day never comes that I find them. If it does, you can tell me you told me so."

"When the day comes...I may not want to." With that, Bruce dressed, and he and I headed to Wayne Enterprises. Once we got in the building, we both grabbed a coffee and headed for the elevator.

"Okay, first thing today, you have a business meeting with that man from Hong Kong, Lau I think his name was. If you can stay awake long enough, that is." I said, giggling, and he rolled his eyes.

"Oh haha, very funny Carter. Anything else?" He asked. I looked over my notebook.

"Hm...your lunch is free today, and you have a few other meetings in the evening...there's a late call coming through, so I'll make sure to stay late to get it through." I said.

"Alright, I'll give you a lift home then." He said. I smiled.

"You really don't have to do that, Bruce, I can ride the monorail. It's nearly impossible to get a car in this city..." I muttered.

"Sorry Carter, it's not happening. You know how dangerous the city is at night." He said, and I sighed, knowing I wouldn't win this fight.

"Alright, alright. I think everyone is already in the boardroom, they're just waiting for us and Lau." I said. He nodded, and we walked into the boardroom. However, as the meeting continued, I took notice that Bruce, as I suspected, had fallen asleep! I giggled a little, and made sure to take detailed notes. Once everyone had left, I woke Bruce and handed him the notes I had taken. "Told you so." I said, laughing. I then left and headed for my desk, while Bruce talked to Lucius about armor upgrades, all of us unaware of the terror that was soon to befall Gotham.
