A few months had passed, little did Katie know things were about to change for real now. Both Carly and Katie, sat watching TV trying to avoid the local news "Nothing great to watch, want to go out?" Carly asked Katie who was daydreaming like she always does "What?" she replied "I just want to know if you feel like going somewhere cool." replied Carly, not knowing Katie was still hurt inside from the past of what happened. Meanwhile, a few moments later Katie realized something "Oh shoot!" she said feeling a little stupid "What?" replied Carly "I need new shoes, these look ugly on me now." Katie looking stressed out "Kate, they look fine but you can always borrow a pair of mine if you like" Carly hugged Katie trying to keep her focused. "Kate, wait here I need to ask my mom something." said Carly as she headed to her moms room where her mom was working on her computer "Mom, can we go out?" asked Carly "Sure, where are you two off?" asked her mom "Oh, just for a walk around the stores." said Carly "Sure, but be careful sweetie and have fun." said her mom kissing Carly on the cheek. Carly headed back to her room, Kate was sat in the corner holding her head in her hands remembering the past.
They went out after about 5 minutes of talking, they went for a walk to the mall looking around at the fashion shops, they found some seats and decided to sit down "There's a great place to eat here, I went there when I was 7, your just a year younger than me Kate." said Carly "Only by 4 months, Carly" replied Katie "Oh look, there's Kevin" Carly whispered carefully "Eww!! That kid is a freak, he wanted to be with me but he is not my type" Katie said quietly. Kevin noticed the girls and walked over "What are you girls doing here?" he said "Nothing now go away freak!" Carly said pushing Kevin away with her feet "Kevin, nobody likes you after the stunt you pulled in school with the Principal" Katie replied "You dorks are just a waste of space, especially you Katie! No wonder your living with your dork of a friend!" he said with a rude tone "Kevin screw off jerk! Or do you want the whole school to know what you did to Kyle?" said Carly who was getting annoyed with Kevin "You wouldn't dare!" he said walking away. "Carly, do you think it's time to forget the past?" asked Katie "Kate, my mom says your welcome to stay with us." replied Carly, comforting Katie "Carly, I don't know what to do anymore now." said Katie feeling a little down.
After a few hours, they soon went back home thinking about everything that went on, Carly's mom noticed Katie looking upset "What happened?" asked Carly's mom to Katie "Kevin happened mom, he said something he shouldn't." Carly responded "Ignore him sweetie, he just wants a reaction from you." Carly's mom said to Katie "I can't exactly call you my mom, but I do appreciate you letting me stay here." said Katie "Katie, whatever makes you feel comfortable is fine with us." said Carly's mom to Katie "Sandy, ever thought of adoption?" said Carly's dad "Shane, you need to apply for that." said Carly's mom. A few hours of talking about the adoption process, Katie and Carly were upstairs "Is your mom serious?" asked Katie "Of course I am, as long as you have somewhere to live that is perfectly fine with us." Carly's mom replied.
Later that evening, in Carly's room Katie and Carly were laying on the bed "Hey, um Carly?" Katie said tiredly "Yeah?" replied Carly "Was your mom serious before?" she asked Carly who was now sat up leaning against the back headboard of the bed "My mom meant it, she would never lie to me so she would never lie to you Kate" Carly said reassuring Katie. Later that night, just before they went to bed Carly's mom came upstairs knocking on Carly's door "Come in" responded Carly "You girls ready for bed?" asked Carly's mom "Yup! We're ready" replied Carly "Katie?" replied Carly's mom "Hmmm what?" Katie replied looking tired "Are you ready for bed?" asked Carly's mom smiling "Oh ummm yeah sorry." replied Katie, getting into bed with her Carly "Okay! Goodnight girls".
An hour later, the girls were asleep but Carly's parents were downstairs talking amongst each other about what to do with Katie, a grieving 13 year old girl with nowhere else to go. Katie couldn't exactly go live with her grandparents since they were a long way from her, instead Carly's mom had offered to adopt Katie. "So, uh what are we going to do with her Shane? She's only 13." asked Sandy, Carly's mom "Sandy, you wanted to adopt her. If you want to do the right thing, we can go to the adoption agency and request some papers to sign." Shane replied "Honey, we can't send her out of town, she gets along well with Carly." replied Sandy. They spent the better part of the night talking about the adoption, they both agreed it would be the right thing to do, Katie would be happier there, she had a lot of friends she trusted. What would Katie say when she found out she was going to be living with them? Would she like it? Carly's parents headed upstairs to bed, thinking about the adoption they agreed to, there was so much potential for Katie. Her future could only get better, having her friends close by to support her
