Sunday morning, Katie looking slightly bored in her room. Quite a normal going girl she was, an average teenager with a lot to learn. She got dressed in her favorite clothes, denim jeans and a green shirt which she got for her birthday just a few months ago. After about an hour of getting ready for the day, Katie's mother had prepared breakfast, Katie's favorite was pancake with syrup. Her mother gave her a smile "Well, good morning honey, I made your favorite" at that moment Katie stopped for a second "Mom, could you teach me how to cook the way you do?" Katie was interested in cooking since she was 4 she would help her mom around the kitchen, small things like cupcakes or brownies "Of course I can, I can get you a recipe for anything you want." Katie's mom was always cooking things.
After breakfast Katie and her mom went out to the store, they didn't live too far from the store "So, what would you want to make for your first attempt?" Katie's mom said to Katie who was thinking what to make and then it came to her, something she wanted to make "Can we do omelette?" she said to her mom with a smile on her face "Sure, it is difficult to make first time, but you'll have me to watch you, you know so you don't injure yourself." Katie's mom reluctantly said as they walked into the store with a cart, grabbing whatever they needed.
After they got back home, Katie was assisted to make omelette, in fact her mom didn't even need to assist Katie at all "Wow! You're not bad huh?" her mom said as she started washing everything Katie used. "Mom?" Katie said wanting something "Hmm? What's on your mind?" her mom responded "Can I stay at Carlys house tonight?" she said urging to pack some stuff "Sure, your dad and I are going out tonight." her mom said kissing Katie on the forehead "Oh and don't forget if you have homework, you'll need to do that." her mom added "Okay mom, I don't have any this week" Katie reassured her mom.
A few hours later, Katie was dropped off at Carlys house by her parents "Be safe sweetie and try behave for Carlys parents". Eager to get inside, Katie just reached the door as Carly opened up "OMG! You came? Tonight is going to be sweet, I hope you like horrors" Carly giggled "I'm kidding, mom never lets me watch horrors apparently I'm not old enough for them." Carly added "Carly aren't they for adults?" Katie asked "That's what my mom says all the time when I ask her, she's only being protective I guess." Carly said looking a little on edge "Hey how about we watch Harry Potter?" Katie said as she reached into her backpack for a DVD. They liked to watch Harry Potter, so they did just that for the night. Meanwhile downstairs, Carlys mom was watching the local news about a fatal crash involving two people "Hey, looks like Katie's parents right?" Carlys dad, Shane said in disbelief "That is! We should tell Katie in the morning Shane." Carlys mom, Sandy replied "She has nowhere to go now, we can't send her to Vermont with her grandparents, doesn't feel right taking her away from home, Sandy." Shane said still in disbelief.
Sandy looked at Shane in shock "Shane, she can stay with us we have a spare room we can decorate for Katie." Sandy said hugging Shane "Okay, but when do we tell her?" he replied "We should say now so it's not too late." Sandy added . They went upstairs to Carlys room, knocking on her door "Come in!" Carly said while watching the DVD Katie brought. Shane and Sandy looking emotional "Mom? Dad? What's wrong?" Carly asked climbing off her bed to hug her parents "Carly, you remember Katie's parents?" Carlys mom asked "Yeah, I know them" said Carly but Katie stopped them all "Did something happen to them?" asked Katie "Yes, they got into a fatal crash, Shane and I agreed to take you into our home just so you have a place to stay" said Sandy hugging Katie who broke into tears "I am really sorry for this" said Shane joining Sandy and Katie. "What happens now?" Katie said calming down a little "The police are going to grab some stuff, to bring over here." responded Sandy.
