My eyes looked over my shoulder to the tv with a clear image of a news reporter, talking about the latest catastrophes around. Our town was quiet, nothing ever happened here. It was a rarity to see something about our town on the news, it happened maybe once a year. I focused my view back on the pot resting on the stove in front of me, stirring the homemade soup I had made for Barrie and I. Barrie works a majority of the day, leaving me in my own space to do absolutely nothing but watch some highly dramatic soap opera or reading the sections of the newspapers. We lived in a well affordable apartment, surprisingly we shared the fourth floor with two other people, the room next to us empty. It has been abandoned for more than 2 years, by now it's reached the lowest price leaving the apartment owners to beg for people to buy the rooms. No one ever did, though, which I never took care into. I shook my thoughts away as Barrie walked in the front door, going to the kitchen and wrapping his arms around my waist securely from behind, pressing a soft kiss on my temple.

"How's my baby?" he cooed, as if he were talking to a child. I smiled, lifting the pot off the burning stove, placing it on a mat.

"Could be better, I guess. How was your day?" I replied calmly, trying not to say too much. He ignored my question, looking at the soup, grabbing a bowl from the cabinet. I picked up the remote from the table, clicking the television off and grabbing a bowl for myself.

After I had finished cleaning up, Barrie had decided to go back to work on a few things, leaving me alone once again in a tranquil apartment. It was a late Friday night, quiet as always, as I rested my head back on the couch and taking another sip of wine. It wasn't until around 10 I heard a knock on the door. Confused, I lifted my head and pressed the music off. I rested the wine glass down, walking over to the door. I looked through the peephole, although I couldn't get a good view. I waited a few minutes before I opened the door and in front of me was no one, but the cool air filling up the empty hallway. I looked left and right, then to my door which a note was taped to it. I pulled it off, with nothing on it but in huge bold letters "ROOM 345" across it, which happened to be the room next to ours.
