There was always a threat. In this world, just about anything could kill you. Living was a dangerous game, a gamble with a hidden outcome.

Around every corner there was the possibility of death, and even worse, the death that takes over your mind. They were always on edge, every single one of them prepared for the worst.

So when the time came that they were clustered into a service closet, the sound of snarls and growls coming from the other side of the door and shadows dancing beneath the door, Carol pressed herself up against the back wall, the idea of becoming small welling up in the back of her head. Be small and they can't get you. Be small and he can't get you.

For Daryl, the small closet was simply that. A small closet. A means of survival. But for Carol, it was an escape from a threat to the memory of a different one.
