Mother: We need to talk. I realize you are in the midst of studying for your finals ( Which you ARE studying for, correct?), but what I am wanting to speak to you about is in regards to your texting plan.

You: Hello, mother. Do we have to talk about this right now? As you so clearly expressed, I should be studying for my finals that are in nearly two weeks.

Mother: Kylee Evelyn Carson, you better not be talking back to me. I know very well what you're doing, and I can only hope you manage to get a passing grade in these classes. Both of our futures rely on them. Now, I want to discuss with you, at some point, why you appear to go over your usual texting minutes.

You: Am I out of minutes soon? Because if so, Mother, I would like to keep them scarce instead of wasting them on this conversation.

Mother: Watch it. I'm serious. You're not almost out of minutes, yet, but I felt I needed to reach out and remind you why you're at school. I certainly pray that you aren't ignoring your studies and work with whomever you are texting regularly. Frankly I don't care who it is, so long as you understand what comes first. Have I made myself clear?

You: Crystal, Mother. May I be excused now so I can return to studying?

Mother: Yes. I'll let you go.

You: Thank you, you controlling, uncaring, unsympathetic, snobbish, selfish, sorry excuse for a mother. [ unsent ]

You: Lovely.
