…there was a huge sound at the door!  Bob went to the door and frantically started trying to get through the cat flap, until he remembered it was locked.  Curse their rules! Bob thought.  He pressed his ear against the door, but there were no other sounds.  He fell asleep like that, only to be awakened by somebody trying to get in the door.  He ran and hid in his box, and then the door opened to reveal the lady who had brought him to his room.  “Sorry if I scared you earlier. I dropped a meal tray on my way to another room.”  Now she had come carrying a tray with more food and water for Bob.  She set down the new bowls and took the old.  Then she left, saying, “Bye!”  Bob thought, I wonder why I haven’t seen anybody else besides that lady? Anyway, I’ll be able to look around tomorrow, once they let me out.  He ate the food, whatever it was, and then settled down to watch some Animal Planet.

The next day, Bob woke up to find that his bowl from last night had been removed, and in its place was a bowl of kibbles and milk.  Apparently, the lady had snuck in while he was asleep.  The thought creeped Bob out.  Anyway, live for the moment.  It’s breakfast, Bob thought.  He ate quickly; then he set out to explore.  The cat flap was now unlocked, so once he exited his room, he decided to go left, the opposite direction from where he came.  After a while, he came upon a sort of common room with lots of cats hanging out.  Suddenly, a small calico came up to him and said, “Hi, I’m Joe.  You must be the new arrival.”  Bob said, “Hi, I’m Bob and, yes, I am the new arrival.”  “Here, come over and sit with me,” said Joe. “Okay,” Bob said.  Once they were in the corner, Joe said, “We have to get out of here! Cats are disappearing!”  Suddenly, a voice appeared in Bob’s head, “YOU MUST BE PUNISHED!”   He jumped.  “Did you hear that?” Bob said.  “No,” Joe said. “What did you hear?”  “Oh, nothing,” Bob said. “It must have been my imagination.”  “Okay,” Joe said.  They talked for a bit more about the place and Bob nearly forgot about the weird voice.  Then he suddenly got a stomachache.  He said, “I have to go.”  Joe said, “Okay, let’s meet back here at the same time tomorrow.” “Okay, bye,” Bob said.  “Bye,” Joe said.  Bob left and headed back to his room.  Enough excitement for one day.  What was Joe talking about…cats disappearing?

Once he got back, he sank into his box to take a nap.  No sooner did he do this than the door opened and the lady came in, saying, “I heard you had a stomachache.”   Oh my kibbles!!  How did she know? Bob thought.  Oblivious to his distress, she poured some bright blue liquid into his water, saying, “This will make you feel better.”  Remembering his discussion with Joe, he thought, Yeah, right. More likely it’s part of some sinister plot to disappear all the world’s cats.  He resolved to tell Joe about it in their discussion tomorrow.  Thankfully, she also brought a second bowl of water “for when he finished his medicine.”  He would drink that instead and figure out how to get rid of the suspiciously creepy blue water without her finding out.  Finally, she left, leaving him free to take his nap.  He would think about it all later.  What was Joe talking about and what was that “voice” he heard and what caused his stomachache and what’s with the creepy blue water?
