Bob was falling…he twisted in midair, trying to find the trapeze from which he had fallen. “BOB!” cried Joe. “I’m so sorry!” cried Fred. Joe made as if to jump after his friend, but Fred blocked his path. “No! There’s nothing you can do now!” he said.
Bob was almost to the bottom. He twisted again, and landed gracefully on his feet as only a cat can do. That was actually kind of fun… he thought. He looked around for a way out. There! Some stairs! I guess even Dr. Abe isn’t completely evil. He clambered onto the first step. The stairs were seemingly endless, or was that just because they retreated into the wall?
He continued upwards, back to where Dr. Abe had left them. As he reached the top, he turned and saw his friends at the edge of the chasm, peering downwards. “Guys!” said Bob. They whirled. “Bob!” they cried in unison. “How did you get back up?” asked Fred. “We saw you fall all the way down!” Bob replied, “And you didn’t see the stairs?”
“Err, no,” Joe responded. “Well, now that we know there’s no risk of getting trapped down there forever, we should make more attempts to get across!” Fred butted in. “You’re right,” Bob replied.
So the cats tried, and they tried, and they tried again. Finally, Joe made it across. “How did you do it?” Bob asked incredulously. “I don’t know,” Joe answered, “but now it looks like you don’t have to!”
He was right. The trapezes were slowly ascending into the ceiling and several panels were unfolding from either side of the chasm to form a bridge. “Finally!” Bob declared. He and Fred started walking across, slowly at first, then more rapidly, as they realized the bridge wasn’t going to collapse from underneath their paws.
Once they were across, they rushed to get drinks and snacks. Then, once they were sated, they settled down on some fluffy cat beds, as they were quite exhausted. “If that was just the first task of Agility Training, I’d hate to see what the other tasks are going to be,” Joe said. “Don’t remind me!” Fred said. “Well, we’ll find out tomorrow…” Bob’s voice trailed off as he drifted into sleep.

The next morning, the cats awakened to the horrible sound of a wailing klaxon. “Gah!” Joe exclaimed. “What is that unholy noise?”
“I think that would be our wake up call,” Bob replied. “How nice.” Fred said. “We’re awake.”
“You can stop now!” Joe yelled to the ceiling. “Uhh, guys...” Bob interrupted. “I think I figured out the next training task…”
“What do you mean?” Fred asked. “Look at the chasm,” Bob said by way of reply. “Oh.” Joe said.
The chasm from yesterday had completely changed, from the rushing water now filling it, to the lack of a bridge spanning it. The goal today was a big red button on the other side. “That must be what stops the noise,” Fred said. “Well, no reason for further ado!” Joe said while backing up. “Joe, what are you—” Bob broke off. “Geronimooo!” Joe yelled while taking a flying leap into the roiling depths. “Joe!” Fred and Bob yelled in desperation. But it was too late. Their friend had disappeared into the whirlpool.
