" You aren't going to hit anything with that shot, Ripley." Mr. Sheller said to me. He shook his head disapprovingly at the target. My bullets haven't even hit anywhere close to the target. All of my shots bounced off of the wall. I knew I had a terrible shot, but that doesn't mean that he gets to scold me every time I miss. He should be trying to encourage me and tell me what I'm doing wrong.

" You've been on seven missions and you still haven't figured out how to shoot yet? That's just downright terrible." He said.

" I'm at least trying." I said.

" Yea. Trying to miss. Can someone please help Mr. Ripley?" Mr. Sheller asked the class.

" I'll help him." Mike, my best friend, said. He stepped out of line, and walked up to me.

" Need some help?" He asked.

" Of course I need help. That's the reason why you volunteered." I replied, but in a joking tone. Mike and I have been best friends for our entire lives. When I got recruited Spy School, I had to leave him behind and lie to him about the school. But, I couldn't keep the secret for long. He found out about a few months after I joined. Then he joined the school too because he helped out on a mission in Vail, Colorado. So far, he's turned out to be a far more decent spy than me.

" Oh right. Let's see you shoot." He said.

I looked at the target and raised my gun. I did the calculations in my head, and shot. Bang. Bang. Bang. None of my shots made it to the target. They all bounced off of the wall. Although one did come close to hitting the target, it was still a miss.

" Hm. Maybe you're recoiling too much. You shrink back every time you shoot. Don't let the force of the gun determine your shot. Stand up tall, and feel confident in your shot. Focus on the target." Mike said.

I did what he said. I straightened my posture, and focused on the target. I did the calculations again, and shot.

The first shot didn't make it any where close to the target. The second one bounced off of the wall, and the third one almost hit the bottom of the target. I sighed. I wasn't going to ever hit the target.

" Don't worry buddy. You'll get better. Just keep on practicing. You'll be hitting the target in no time." Mike said.

" He'll hit the wall more than hits anything." Mr. Sheller said. " Get back in line boys."

We obeyed. I put the gun back, and went to the end of the line. I shot a glance at Zoe Zibbell, my other friend. She gave me a smile and a thumbs up. I smiled back. Zoe was one of my first friends here in Spy School. She's helped me on all of my missions and she's improving a lot. I'm still the same way I was when I got here. Although I have managed to thwart the evil organization, SPYDER many times. But, that wasn't without the help of my friends.

Mr. Sheller called up the next batch of students. They all stepped forward and aimed their guns.

But before they could shoot, the principal came on the intercom.

" Hello? Is this thing even working? Hang on." We heard the principal mutter to himself. Mr. Sheller rolled his eyes. The principal (or the Idiot) was the most incompetent person in this school. He was disliked by everyone in the school. But out of everyone, he hates me the most.

Once, I accidentally blew up his office. It wasn't entirely my fault. But, he put all of the blame on me anyway. His office was now an old storage closet where cleaning chemicals used to be stored. It wreaked of old chemicals and it was very small. He's still trying to get a new office.

" Ok there we go. Can Ben Ripley, Mike Brezinski, Zoe Zibbell, and Erica Hale report to the principal's office at once?" The Idiot said into the microphone. Everyone looked towards me, Mike, and Zoe. We all looked at each other and shrugged. We grabbed our things and headed out of the door.

" What do you think he wants now?" Zoe asked.

" I don't know." I replied.

" I hope it's another mission!" Mike yelled excitedly.

" Me too!" Zoe agreed cheerfully.

I thought carefully. Maybe it was another mission. Not only did he call us three, but he also called Erica. Erica is the most competent and talented spy in Spy School. She's been with me on all of my missions. She's saved me more times than I can count. If it weren't for her, I would've died a thousand times over. She can also fight in various different styles and she can hit a target spot on.

We went outside and made our way towards the Nathan Hale Administration Building. I looked around for Erica. She was no where to be found. I shrugged. Knowing her, she was probably already there.

We went through the doors, and walked to the principal's office. When we got there, we saw Erica getting frisked and waved. Well, we saw her trying to get frisked and waved. She refused to let the agents touch her or go anywhere near her for that matter. She looked annoyed.

" Is this really necessary? I got called here by the dumb Idiot. I shouldn't have to get checked out for weapons. You can clearly see them on me. They're all on the utility belt. " She said. The agents were having a really hard time with her.

" We just need to check just in case, sweetheart." One of the agents tried to get her to cooperate. This only made her even more frustrated.

" Don't. Call. Me. That." She said coldly. Luckily, Cyrus came out of the principal's office. " It's alright. They don't have to get waved." He said. The other agents obeyed, and let us through even though the metal detectors went off like crazy when Erica walked through them.

We all crammed into the tiny room. I was pushed up against Erica. I blushed a little when we made contact. Erica rolled her eyes and scooted over for more space. When we were all in the room, I realized that there were two more people in there other than Cyrus and the Idiot. Alexander Hale and, surprisingly, Catherine Hale. They were both in the middle of the room.

Catherine greeted us all.

" Hello children!" She said. Her sweet British accent sounded through the room. I was thrilled to see her again. Zoe and Mike were too. " Hi Catherine!" Zoe exclaimed. She went up to her, and hugged her. Catherine hugged back. Mike joined in on the hug. I did too. I was always excited to see Catherine. She was like a second mom to me. She was kind and awesome. She could defeat two enemy agents in five seconds. She was an incredible spy. Unlike her husband, Alexander.

Alexander was a fraud. He used to take the credit for everything. But, the CIA found out about this, and they fired him from the CIA. But, he proved himself worthy on one of our missions. The CIA recruited him again. He has improved on being a spy, but not as much as his wife and daughter.

Catherine looked behind us, and saw Erica standing alone.

" Come here Erica." Catherine ordered. She said it in a sweet but firm voice. Like she was going to say something important.

Erica hesitated for a second. She walked to her mom slowly. When she got close enough, Catherine hugged her too. Erica stood there for a moment. Then, her eyes grew wide. Wider than I've ever seen them.

" Mom?" She asked cautiously.

" Yes?" Catherine replied.

Erica broke out of the hug, and looked down. At first, I couldn't see what she was looking at. She was breathing deep, heavy breaths. It looked like she was panicking. I've never seen Erica panic. It must be something serious.

Catherine smiled. She grabbed Erica's hand, and put it on her stomach. Erica's breaths grew heavier. She stared at her hand in shock. Finally, she spoke.

" H-h-how? W-what?" Erica stammered. My friends stared at her.

" What is it. What's wrong?" Mike and Zoe asked.

Catherine smiled at them. " We called you all here for a very special surprise."

She looked Erica in the eyes. She put her hands on her daughter's shoulders. " Congratulations sweetheart. You're going to be a big sister."

And just like that, everything changed.
