Trigger warning: abuse, bullying

Betty's POV
As soon as I laid eyes on Jughead Jones, I realized I maybe have a slight crush on him. He seemed like such a sweet and compassionate boy. After talking, I found out we have a lot in common. We both love to read and write, and we happen to be the same age! We'll see each other at school! Soon after he left, Archie and I made our way back home. I was greeted by my mother.

"Elizabeth, where have you been?" she questioned sternly.

"Archie and I were playing." I said.

"Well, you should have been home, practising your vocabulary instead. You need to do better, Elizabeth. Maintain your image."

"Of course, mother," I mumbled, looking down.

"Posture, Elizabeth. And speak clearly," she reminded me.

"Right," I said, straightening my back.

After mom dropped me off at school, I met up with Archie. We looked around until we saw him. There was Jughead, getting picked on by the 'cool kids', Reggie Mantle and Chuck Clayton, along with all of their friends. He was in the centre of the circle, and he just stood there, head down as they called him names and threw small rocks at him.

Jughead's POV

Tears streamed down my face as all the so-called cool kids picked on me. Every single aspect of my life. The they started throwing pebbles. I couldn't move, or they would punch me. Just then, I heard the most comforting sound ever.

"Leave him alone!"

Betty Cooper. Leave it to her to come to my rescue. I though she'd have forgotten about me.

"Uh, thanks Betty. No one has ever done that for me before. I really appreciate it." I stated. She just smiled at me and told her to find them at lunch, since class was starting. I nodded and went along to my first class.

Lunch came fairly quickly, and I was looking forward to actually being able to eat my lunch without having it knocked out of my hands. I eventually found Betty and Archie. We ate lunch, and for the first time in a long time, I actually had a fun day.

On my way back home, I went to pick up Jellybean from her daycare.

"Juggie!" she exclaimed when she saw me as she came running over.

"Hey Jellybean," I replied, smiling. "Ready to go home?"

She nodded her head as I scooped her up in my arms and made my way home. As soon as I got inside, I set her down and told her to stay behind me. My father came into the entrance and pinned me up against the wall. His breath smelled like alcohol.

"Run to your room Jellybean. Hurry," I whispered and she complied.

I closed my eyes and let a tear fall as my own father punched me in the stomach. I was on the floor curled up while he was repeatedly kicking me.

"Boys- don't- cry," he shouted, punctuating every word with a kick in the ribs.

"Please poppa. Leave me alone." I sobbed. He gave me one final punch and left, perhaps to go drink some more. Once I had enough energy to move, I went up to Jellybean's room to check on her. She looked fine, playing with her toys. I knelt down next to her.

"Hey, you ok?" I asked softly.

"Juggie," She said quietly putting her tiny hand on my face. I winced.

"Where's mommy?" She inquired. I hesitated.

"She's... on vacation and... she won't be back for a long time."

"Daddy scares me," she continues, hiding her face into my neck.

"I know baby, I know. He scares me too, but I'm gonna protect you, alright?" She just nodded her head and hid her face into the crook of my neck. I stroked her hair softly and wondered what to do. I guess I'll just take it one day at a time.
