Chapter 6
July 13, 2010
I have been in New York for almost a week and I want to go home. I miss seeing Cass in the morning, running the block for her hour of exercise. I miss seeing her in the room, looking at her reflection and see the unsatisfied face she gives to what her body looks like.
Cass is beautiful, but I'm sure she doesn't think that. Her light brown hair reaches to her waist. There was a time when she was in third grade her parents gave her a haircut, it was a bob. The one thing she hated the most. I remember coming home from baseball and seeing her cry on the front porch steps.
I sat with her and held her as she cried and complained about the haircut she was forced to get. I tried to tell her then, she was beautiful but like most girls, she didn't believe me. I tried to tell her now how beautiful she truly is; inside and out.
Her blue eyes are what give her away though. They're like an open book, if you didn't know her as long as I have, maybe you'd believe in everything she'd say to you. If you look into her eyes, the truth was hidden there somewhere.
That's how I became to know how she felt about me, how much she loved me. Her eyes, they lit up every time I walked by. There was this certain twinkle in them as she smiled something you wouldn't really notice unless you were searching for it.
Her eyes were like the sea when she was angry. Like the sky when she was calm and like a thunderstorm when she was confused or hurt. Her body language was almost like an answer key. Everything about her was easy to read, if you knew her. And maybe that was my mistake because even now, I don't know if I know her even after all these years...
