I slowly took a step forward, "Mommy?" I whispered for her again, but she suddenly disappeared right in front of my eyes.
My watery eyes wander around the lot hoping I could see her again, because I wanted to talk to her. I wanted to have a genuine conversation with her, but now I will never be able too. She's gone for good.
My heart stopped beating for a second when realization washed over me, "No, no, no." I mumbled as I struggled to pull my brand new phone out of my pocket.
My blurry vision was fixated at the date on my iPhone screen. It was September 18, 2018. Exactly five years after my mother's death. Ever year on her death date, I would go visit her grave and stay there for hours and just talk to her. But this is the first year where I'm missing it and maybe that's why she came to visit me.
"I can make it." I mumbled as I stared at the time on my phone.
I never broke my promises. I promised her that I will always visit her, especially on that day, because I never wanted her to feel alone like she did the moment she passed away.
I quickly order a Lyft and waited outside for it to come. While I was waiting I was debating on whether to buy a one way ticket to Kansas or get a round trip one.
My eyes wander over to the front door and stared at it as my thumb hovered over my next big decision.
"I'm sorry." I whispered as I clicked on the one way ticket and received my order conformation.
The sound of a rusty engine caught my attention causing my watery eyes to wander over to the gates and see that my Lyft driver was already here.
I quickly glanced back at the house, "Bye guys." I whispered, even though I know for a fact they didn't hear me.
I quickly got into the car and watched as the house I called home to this past year slowly disappear from my blurry vision.
I knew it was selfish of me to leave out of the blue, so I decided to let only one of my friends know. And no it's not gonna be Jake nor Colby, but Sam. He has been someone I could go to nowadays whenever I needed to get something off my chest without feeling like I'm gonna be babied.
I typed away on my phone, "Hey, I'm gonna be gone for awhile. I just need some time to myself. I'm okay, but don't let anyone else know until they ask you. I will see you again." I schemed my message over and over again, before finally pressing send.
I didn't even wait for Sam's reply, because I knew he would somehow talk me out of this situation, but I had to head back home. I can't break my promise to my mother.
The flight is 5 hours long and if there isn't a delay, I should landing in Kansas around 10:00pm. Which will give me enough time to head over to my mothers grave and spend sometime with her until midnight.
The driver slowly pulled over to the side, "Thank you." I mumbled, before stumbling out of his car and running inside.
After make it through security, I had seconds to spare to make it the departure desk. I ran as fast I could through the busy airport until I finally made it to my departure station. I quickly handed the flight attendant my ticket, before making my way through the terminal.
My phone was buzzing like crazy, causing me to slowly pull it out of my pocket and notice a bunch of texts from Sam. A sigh left my lips as I muted my phone before putting it away.
Once I found my seat, I was so thankful to find out that I was the only person in my row. I mean let's be serious, no one goes to Kansas unless they are force too. So, this plane was barley filled, which helped calmed down my anxiety.
My glossy eyes were fixated at the scenery as we slowly took off and headed to the other side of the country.

I slowly made my way over to my mother's grave with a bouquet of white tulips because those were her favorite.
It was almost midnight and not a single soul of life was on the property. I had to jump the gates that were protecting this property from grave diggers, which wasn't easy at all. But thankful I remember a trick Sam and Colby had thought me when we were exploring an abandon hotel a couple months ago.
I slowly sat down in front of her grave, "Sorry, I'm late." I apologize as I placed the flowers next to her tombstone.
An overwhelming feeling of sadness flowed through me and suddenly out of no where I broke down, "Why did you leave me mommy?!" I cried out, "I needed you and you just left me all alone with that monster. Why didn't you take me with you?!" I yelled as tears rolled down my face.
"I understand you were hurt and broken because of him, but you shouldn't have left like this. You let him win, mommy. You let him win..."My voice trailed off as I choked on my tears.
My phone vibrating from my pocket caught my attention and I stupidly answered it, "What?" I cried out into the phone.
"Atmosphere, where the fuck are you?!" My best friend yelled through the phone.
"I'm back in Kansas." I told him the truth, because I didn't feel like lying to him at the moment.
"Atmosphere, how did you even..." His voice trailed off, "Never mind, forget that. Get on a plane right now and I will be at the airport waiting for you." He ordered.
"Jakey." I choked on my tears as I said his nickname.
"Atmosphere, please don't..."
I quickly cut him off and gave him the news that none of them would have ever excepted, not even me, "I'm not coming back."
