today was supposed to be happy, it was supposed to be the best day ever. that wasn't the case. tj looked at his suitcase, allowing the reality of today sink in. cyrus was leaving, and tj couldn't go with him. he had to let cyrus go, beyond just leaving for college. he solemnly stared at the luggage, with a checklist titled 'essentials' that cyrus had made sitting on top. he let a sad smile come across his face. he turned around, opening his door, glancing back one more time at the suitcase he was supposed to take with him. he shook off his thoughts, wrapping his hand on the doorknob, exiting his room.

"heading out?", amber said, smiling. amber was sad that tj was moving to new york with cyrus, but she was happy that tj was finally happy.

"yeah.", tj answered, putting on a bright smile. he couldn't tell amber what he was about to do, she'd try to talk him out of it.

"okay, i'll call you when you land.", she said kindly as she retreated back into her bedroom. tj gave a thumbs up, walking down the stairs to the front door. he slid on his shoes, taking his time. cyrus and tj had a little bit of time before the flight, and tj needed it to think this situation over in his head.

opening the door reassured tj that this was the right thing. wind brushing his hair into his face, prompting tj to try his best to keep it under control. he fidgeted with the keys that were resting in his palm, making his way over to his truck.

he started the truck, and drove around the block to cyrus' house. for some reason, this wasn't like every other time he had went to cyrus'. tj felt anxious, but at the same time, he knew it was for the best. at least for now.

he pulled into the driveway, occupied by cyrus' car and his mom's van. tj opened his door and walked up to cyrus' front door. the door always made him smile, because he remembered the countless times he had dates with cyrus. this was the door he stood in front of as he adjusted his shirt, internally panicked, and braced himself for cyrus' presence. the porch made his heart thump, never failing to take his breath away as he stood on it.

he pressed the door bell, inhaling deeply to keep himself calm. he had to be the strong one today, because he knew cyrus would be a sobbing mess over it. tj would be a sobbing mess as well, just not in front of cyrus. he never feared crying in front of cyrus, in fact, tj had always put his emotions on display for cyrus.

tj stood momentarily paralyzed as he saw the brown haired boy looking back at him.

"teej!", cyrus greeted, squeezing tj. the hug pulled him back into reality.

"hey cyrus.", tj said gently. cyrus noticed the sadness that fell behind the words. he noticed the hesitation in tj's movement.

"are you okay?", cyrus asked as he furrowed his eyebrows. tj looked down, not sure how he should go about this.

"actually...can we talk?", tj regretted the words. no good outcome came of conversation that were brought upon a situation with 'can we talk?'. this was no exception.

"for s-sure.", cyrus swallowed hard. tj hated seeing cyrus like this, and he hated that it had to be him saying this.

"outside?", tj asked. in all honesty, tj didn't know how cyrus would react. cyrus could either kick him out, or he would want tj to stay. witth cyrus, it was always unpredictable. cyrus nodded, walking over to the porch swing. tj followed not far behind.
