PREVIEW :
I had just come back from stealing some mangos from Malan aminu's mango tree. What! You can't blame me. He was the one who was so stubborn that he wouldn't let me and my friend pick up his mangos. He's just yet another greedy man we have in this village.
I am now currently at my house door running in like a maniac. I needed to pee so bad that I didn't even notice when I dropped my sack of mangos. I manage to get in quickly as I can. Then I heard my grandmother yell.
"What did you do now?" I yelled back nothing I just really need to use the bathroom.
I could here my grandmother try to tell me something but I just ignored her.
I hurriedly made a turn to were the bathroom was at and opened the door.
Boom!
I'm domed!
Here he was standing inside with only his blue shorts on and a towel in his hands which he was using to clean up his wet face.
"Oh my..." I gasped. Knowing he's going to be mad at me.
He looked straight into my eyes as he dropped his towel.
"What the he...." He started to say but I immediately ran to my grandmother's room.
My grandma looked at me confused as I tried to hide under the bed.
" What are you doing? "She asked.
"Shhhhsh." I sushed. "Tell him I am not here if he asks."
I could here his footsteps getting closer.
"Wallahi yau za a yi ta (we are doing this today) this stupid little rat where are you." He yelled as I just chuckled.
His footsteps stopped as I heard it really close. I could sense that he was there.
"Islam! Islam! Islam." He called my name as if I was going to answer.
"What's the matter with you. Why are you in my room shouting Islam when that girl is not even home." My grandma who I normally call 'kaka' said.
i smiled knowing that kaka will always have my back even when I'm wrong.
" kaka stop hiding her I know she is here." He said. I could only imagine his angry face.
"What happened."
"Kaka Wai yar iskan nan (this stupid girl) has the audacity to come to the bathroom when I am taking my shower."
Kaka couldn't help but to start laughing.
"Why are you laughing?"
"Which Islam are you talking about. Not my grandchild, because since that girl left in the morning she never came back."
I could hear him storm out mumbling under his breath.
"Where are you going?" My kaka asked him as she followed behind.
I quickly got out of the bed and quietly followed behind.
He walked out of his room with his bag angry.
"what are you doing? Are you leaving?"
He looked back at her and I hid myself behind the wall so he wouldn't see me.
"Yes I'm living you and your presious grandchild." Was all he said. He turned around about to leave when another big problem walked in.
"Malan Aminu!" I gulped. Why does he have to come now. He's such a pain in the head.
"Malan Aminu, what are you doing here?" He as in that totally annoying guy that was about to leave asked.
"I came here for my mangoes."
"What mangoes?" Kaka asked.
"The mangoes Islam stole."
"What do you mean. Are you accusing my islam of stealing. My islam would never steal." Kaka exclaimed.
"I just came to warn you. I am reporting her to the village leader. I am not the only one but the entire neighborhood is complaining about her."
"Listen lets not go there. I know my cousin she'll never steal, it's against our family values." That annoying cousin of mine finally saying something sensibly.
"He's right, any way we all know how paranoid you are when it comes to your stupid mango tree. If not your stupid paranoia, how can a nine year old girl steal from a mango tree that is very tall and there is a fence over it." Kaka said which made me chuckle remembering how my friends helped me climb over the fence. Oh boy I'm so sneaky.
"But...." Malan Aminu started to say but was cut off by my cousin.
"I know well that you just want money. How much do you want." I could see malan Aminu's eyes sparkle at the mention of that which just made me roll my eyes.
"Hmm well if I calculate then the mangoes I lost cost N50,000."
Without thinking that ignorant good for nothing, stupid cousin gave him that money.
I was going to go and stop him but instead rushed to the bathroom remembering how bad I I needed to pee.
After I was done with my business, I rushed to them.
"You fool why did you give him that much. You're so stupid he cheated you." I said as I stopped in front of them breathing out heavily.
"Forget about that and answer my question." He said crossing his arms.
"What did I do I just came home."
"Don't freaking lie to me. You are so disrespectful that you walked in to the bathroom when I was taking a shower." He yelled making me look down afraid. He is only 15 but he could be so intimidating. He's such a TEROR!
I just kept quiet looking at the floor.
But he just saved your sorry ass so maybe he's a HERO.
"Sorry I managed to say."
"Oh my! don't scare my child like that." Kaka scolded him.
"You know this habit of hers is all your fault. When I go back to the city, I'm gonna tell Daddy to take you back." He said taking his things and going towards his car.
Oh my God! He's really leaving because of me.
I rushed to him standing close to his car. He smiles and says hi to the driver. Then I watched as he entered the car and before he closed the door he looked at my watery eyes.
"The things I brought you is with Grandma. I'm leaving now see you." He was about to close the door but I stopped him.
"ASLAM!" I yelled making him look at me.
"I know you're leaving because of me. I'm sorry I will never do it again. I didn't mean to... I just needed to use the bathroom quick that I forgot to knock. Yaya Aslam... please don't leave." I pleaded.
He looked at me with a smile. "No Little princess I'm not leaving because of you. I have some important work to do so I had to leave ok. Don't worry I'll be back soon ok." With that I saw his car drive away.
Oh good lord! I'm gonna miss that boy.
