*Rose's POV*

I carefully open the envelope with shaking hands, tears threatening to start streaming down my cheeks. Once I have the carefully folded letter safely out of the envelope, I start reading my mother's beautifully written words, not bothering to read it out loud because I know that Eric will hear every word in my mind.

My Dearest Roselynn,
To start, let me just say how incredibly proud I am of the strong and beautiful woman you have become, I couldn't have asked for a better daughter. If you're reading this, it means that you kept your promise to my sister and stayed a virgin. Your body will go through a series of changes in the next twelve hours and you will receive a gift, passed down to you from your father's family. Unfortunately, the gift skipped your father because he failed to maintain the promise of purity which is why he can't be there to help you through this. The box Beth gave you contains everything you'll need to start your new life. I'm afraid I can't go into too much detail in this letter because if it ever ends up in the wrong hands your life could be in danger. But I have a feeling that you will have someone there to help you every step of the way. I am so sorry that I can't be there to help you embark on this new journey you're destined for, but just know that I am watching over you.
All My Love,
Your Mother

P.S: Tell only who you must. If the wrong people find out about you, they will hunt you down.

By the time I read the last word, I'm sobbing. My mother wrote this while knowing that she was going to die and a thousand questions are running through my mind. Why didn't she do something? Why didn't she go to a doctor? Why didn't she do something, anything to prevent her own death?

"I don't think anything could've prevented it, babe," Eric says next to me in a soft, comforting tone of voice. "And I think your mother knew that."

"I know, I just wish I knew what all of this means," I say through my tears after reading the letter for the third time.

"I do too, but whatever happens, I'll be there to help you through it." Eric kisses my knuckles and I have an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. I have no idea what awaits me, but the fact that I'll have Eric by my side makes it a little less terrifying to think about. "I'm just going to check if this package has been delivered yet, I won't be long." He gives me a quick kiss before getting out of the car and heading into the ridiculously tall building, it must have fifty floors, at least. I read my mother's letter one more time before carefully putting it back in the envelope and returning it to the box. I get out of the car and start digging in my purse for my cigarettes.

As I light one, I start thinking about the events that unfolded over the last couple of weeks. It seems like it was only yesterday when I had a considerably normal life and all I cared about was my career. Now, I'm uncontrollably in love with someone who is anything but human and he's making me question everything I've always believed. To top it all, my mother practically came out of her grave to tell me that my life was going to change but leaving out any details. It was all getting too much. It doesn't take long for Eric to come out of the building again and all I can do is stare at him as he walks towards me with his hands in his pockets. Lord only knows if I'll ever get used to his perfection.

"Are you feeling better?" he asks and gives me a peck on the cheek.

"Yes, I am." I look up at him, his beautiful blue eyes are hidden behind his dark Ray Bans but I can still feel his gaze drilling into my soul. "You're not going to lecture me about smoking?"

"Not today. Besides, you look kind of hot when you smoke." He shoots me that devious smirk and I almost faint.

"I'll keep that in mind," I say before taking one last drag and put the cigarette butt out with my foot.
