Reflection
Looking down at a body- a cracked, half-glass-half-flesh, decaying body; a body that was supposedly my own- I shook my head and commanded my hand to squeeze into a fist. The body's nearly-half-skeletal hand clenched into a fist with my command.
Was this really me? I guess it looked a little like me, save for it being half-made out of glass and the fact that the flesh parts appeared to be slowly rotting. No, it couldn't be me. It didn't feel like me. It felt like a shell, a costume I couldn't take off, a phantom skin.
I pinched myself. I could feel the pinch, much to my dismay. This couldn't be me. I hurried to the closest mirror I could find.
Staring into the reflective glass, another face stared back. It looked like me, sort of. It had the same eyes, the same nose; but it wasn't me. Its hair was matted and knotted, its teeth were rotting and nearly falling out, its skin looked like it was made out of glass, its face was cracked all over and there were even some chunks missing, its lips were stitched into a grotesque ear-to-ear smile, its eyes were dull and dead-looking.
I hit the mirror, shattering it, and backed away.
I didn't look like this..... Did I? This wasn't me.... Was it? What was that thing staring back at me? I couldn't even recognize it. What the hell was it? Some sort of monster?
No, it wasn't a monster, it was me. Right? What else could it be? It looked exactly like me, save for its grotesque features; at least I think that's what I look like. Come to think of it, I can't exactly remember what I look like. I can't remember the last time I really looked at myself, let alone recognized myself... Was that really me, or was it just a shell, a grotesque and decaying shell?
