"You sick bastard!" You sat up from your cot, laying the book you were reading on your lap as you looked out towards the familiar arguing of the gang's favourite couple. "You're calling me a sick bastard?! You won't get off my back for one second will ya, ya crazy bitch! I go out hunting to supply for you, to keep you happy, but here you are calling ME a sick bastard because god knows why!" You sighed, standing up and heading to the front door of your cabin, pulling your coat closer to your body in order to watch the scene fold out in front of you. "If we ever get to that point, just shoot me" Arthur grumbled behind you, grabbing your waist and kissing your neck. "This is a bad one" you looked up at him, the shouting between Abigail and John getting louder and louder, "I think we should go and save Jack. He doesn't deserve to sit through this shit" "And do what? Y/N, we're in the middle of the mountains if you haven't noticed. We take him anywhere, he'll freeze to death" "Then we better wrap him up warm" The two of you flinched when the door to the Marston Cabin flew open, smashing against the wall as a fuming John stormed out in nowhere near enough layers, Abigail screaming behind him. "I've had enough of this" you mumbled, storming out of Arthurs grip and rushing towards the cabin. Abigail had stormed after John, shouting at him as they reached the edge of the camp. "Jackie?" You asked softly, rushing towards the response of little cries and whimpers, "Hey, kiddo. Want to come out with me and Uncle Arthur?" "Where we going?" He asked sniffling, smiling weakly when you dabbed his eyes with the sleeve of your coat. "You like the snow, right? Why don't we go and make a snowman?" "Yeah!" He exclaimed, a hint of excitement in his voice. You smiled with him and helped him wrap up warm, putting on numerous layers of coats and scarves. "Want to wear the hat Miss Grimshaw knitted for you?" "It's too scratchy" You stared at the hat in your hand before chucking back into Jack's small trunk, "Don't blame you" The two of you hurried out into the cold hand in hand, heading towards Arthur who had prepared your horse with his. "Uncle Arthur! We're going out to build a snowman!" "A snowman! Well, you best go and ask Uncle Pearson if you can borrow a carrot" "Good idea!" He said, rushing towards Pearson. You signalled over Karen, who hesitantly came to the two of you, rubbing her arms furiously. "I was just going over for a bath. I've been heating water for it all day" "We don't need you for long, Karen. We're taking Jack out to get away from John and Abigail's constant bickering. If Abigail asks, he's with us. Now go for your bath" "Stay safe, won't you?" She placed her hand on your arm as the shouting continued to echo across the mountains, "We don't want to lose you guys too. The rest of us actually like you two" "I like us two as well" Arthur added, smiling when he saw Jack proudly skip back from Pearson's with a carrot in his hand, "Ready to go, kiddo?" "You betcha!" He smiled, lifting his arms up towards Arthur as an indication that he wanted to be lifted up onto Boadicea. You smiled at Karen before hopping up onto your own horse, kicking your feet gently as a signal to move forward. Arthur trotted up next to you, "Where we heading Auntie Y/N?" "I was thinking up the mountains. Quite a view up there" "Quite dangerous too" he added, looking at you like you were mad. "We have you" you smiled, kicking harder with an added 'YAH' to gallop towards the mountains. Jack giggled gleefully, holding tightly onto Boadicea's mane as Arthur held onto his small body tightly, keeping his eye out for anything that posed a threat to the three of you. "This looks like a good spot!" You called out, your face feeling numb from the cold, "What do you think, Jackie?" "Perfect!" "Alright" Arthur slowed his horse down to a stop, looking back to watch you do the same. Arthur hopped off first, hitching Boadicea to the nearest tree before helping an eager Jack down to the floor, "Let's help Auntie Y/N down first before we head off, ok Jack? Do the gentlemanly thing" Jack padded over to your horse at Arthur's heels, holding his hand out towards you. Arthur grabbed your waist and helped you down slowly, making sure you could grab Jack's hand to make him feel like he was helping. "Why thank you, kind sir" you curtsied to Jack, who bowed before rushing off to start making a snowman. "I am able to get off my horse by myself, Arthur" you laughed, sorting his hat out after the breezy ride. "I know. Just teaching Jack to be a gentleman" "Well, he is certainly learning from the best" "Arthur, can you help me?" Jack asked, struggling to make anything from the snow. Smiling, Arthur jogged over the best he could in the snow, crouching down to help Jack roll the snow into a ball. You smiled as you watched Arthur play childishly with Jack. He was so naturally gentle and caring, and you couldn't wait to raise your own children with him one day. "OW!" You cried, a sharp, wet feeling stinging your face, "What the-" You looked up and saw Arthur snickering, Jack rolling around on the floor in a fit of laughter. "Oh, you're in for it now" you growled, rolling the snow in your palms and launching it at Arthur, hitting him square in the face, causing Jack to point at laugh at the confused cowboy. "You don't get to do that and get away with it!" He laughed, tackling you to the ground as you tried to squirm out of his grip. "Arthur let me go! Let me go, you big buffoon" "Never!" He laughed with you, grabbing a bunch of snow and sprinkling it on your face. You saw Jack creep up behind Arthur, his hat tipped upside down. "You don't get to tackle Auntie Y/N and not pay for it!" He yelled, shoving his hat full of snow onto Arthur's head. Arthur growled jokingly and moved off of you to grab Jack's ankles, tickling him as they rolled about in the snow. You crawled away, your stomach hurting from how much you had been laughing. You looked over towards the snowman the boys had built, tilting your head when you thought something was missing. "Y/N?! What are you doing?!" Arthur called out, the giggling from Jack fading slightly. "This snowman was a bit bare. Didn't want him to get cold" you shrugged, wrapping your scarf around the snowman, placing a few scattered rocks into the face, "Jack, where's the carrot you got from Uncle Pearson" "In my saddlebag" Arthur breathed heavily, helping Jack up and brushing the snow off of his back, "You go and grab it, kiddo" As Jack hurried to get the carrot out of Boadicea's saddlebag, Arthur wrapped his arms around your middle, looking at the snowman with you. "Let's have one?" He asked, kissing behind your ear gently. "A snowman? I'm sure we can make another one outside the lodge at camp" "No" he laughed, "A Jack?" "We can't steal him!" "Y/N! I'm being serious" he started to tickle you, "I want a kid with you, darling" "Y/N! ARTHUR! I GOT IT!" Jack shouted gleefully, stabbing it right in the face of the snowman, shoving two sticks he picked up into the sides for the arms. "There, just perfect isn't he" you smiled picking Jack up and placing him on your hips. "His name is Jeremy. Jeremy Morgan" "Morgan? Don't you mean Marston?" Arthur asked with a sense of pride. "No. Morgan. I know that's not your last name, Auntie Y/N, but it will be soon. Right?" "I hope so" you kissed his temple, smiling towards Arthur, who was looking at his creation proudly. Your smile fell when you heard the howls of wolves. You looked back towards Arthur, his face matching yours. "I think it's time to go home now, Jack" you told him, walking back over to the horses, Arthur carefully scoping out the landscape. "Y/N, take Jack back. I'll be right behind you in a bit" "No, you're coming too" "Don't argue with me woman. Get home now" "I'm not leaving without you! They're not here yet. If we all leave now, we're all safe. I don't want to leave here knowing that you're in danger!" Arthur growled in frustration but didn't want to argue, so helped Jack onto his horse and climbed on behind him. You hurried behind him, climbing onto your own horse and cantering off behind the boys. "SHIT!" Arthur called, wrapping one arm tightly around Jack and grabbing his shotgun from the side of the horse, "Y/N! WHAT DID I TELL YOU!" You scoffed and grabbed your repeater, shooting towards the wolves who were charging towards you, "IF YOU HADN'T ARGUED WITH ME, WE WOULDN'T BE IN THIS MESS RIGHT NOW" "THIS IS MY FAULT?" "JUST SHOOT MORGAN" Firing a few more shots, the wolves were soon down, and the horses were pulled to a stop. "You ok Jackie?" You asked, seeing him hide in Arthur's chest. "Are they gone?" "Yeah...yeah we're safe now, kiddo" Arthur panted, "You alright?" You nodded, putting your gun back into its holder on the side of the saddle. In the silence of the mountains, you heard a low cry, as if someone was in pain. "What in the-" "Sounded like a person" you observed, moving your horse forwards, "He's up there. Take Jack home" "What? No! What if it's not safe?!" "And put the kid in danger?" "Please stop arguing" Jack began to cry, not used to the two of you arguing. He only ever heard his parents argue this much. You sighed, "Please" Arthur rolled his eyes but nodded, wrapping his coat around Jack to keep him warm. "Jackie, you're going to go home with Uncle Arthur to go and find your mother, ok? Why don't you tell her about Jeremy and how you got Uncle Arthur. I'll be home in a bit" you smiled reassuringly, although it was weak. "Be safe, Auntie Y/N" he called over his shoulder as Arthur sped off back towards camp. "Hello?" You called out, pushing your horse further up the mountain, "Hello?!" "HERE!" Came a familiar voice, one you all too much recognised. "Shit" you pushed your horse to a gallop, hurting towards the voice, "MARSTON! MARSTON KEEP CALLING!" "I'M HERE" "Shit John" you said breathily, jumping off your horse to get a closer look, "What happened" "Wolves" he groaned, his lips turning purple from the cold, "Thank the lord it's you who found me. At least you know what you're doing" "Well, being camp nurse comes with that perk" you retorted, grabbing some medicine from your saddlebag, "Drink this" John obliged, sighing in relief, "Thanks, Miss Y/L/N" "What the hell you doing out here anyway?" You asked, dabbing the blood away from his scars and bandaging his head with the supplies you always kept on you. "Went for a walk. Abigail always finds something to complain about and I was just sick and tired of hearing her voice" You laughed, knowing that what he was saying was true, no matter how rude he was being about her. "What are you doing here? It's freezing out" "Arthur and I took your kid out to play. He shouldn't have to constantly hear his parents argue" "I ain't his dad" "I hate to argue with ya, Marston, but you are. He's your kid. Plain to see it. Has your eyes and everything" "He-" "No, John. You have to step up. I know you love him, somewhere in that pathetic little heart of yours" you reprimanded, finishing off the bandages on his face, "I'll stitch them up when we get back to camp. It's cleaner there" "I do as much as I can for them" he said quietly, making you feel guilty for telling him how to do his job. "I know, I know" "Of course it's you, Marston!" Arthur called, the sound of Boadicea's hooves kicking up snow behind him, "Of course it has to be you" "Thanks to your sidekick here, Morgan, I might live to see another day" "Not when Abigail sees ya. She's fuming" he laughed, groaning when he helped you pick him up. "Jack ok?" "He's fine. Worried about you, that's all. Come on, up you get" The three of you groaned as you all tried to get John onto the back of Boadicea. Arthur huffed and turned to you, kissing you gently. "You just keep on amazing me" "As much as I love when you compliment me, John needs to get to warmth" "Yes, ma'am" The three of you hurried back to camp, quickly but steadily to make sure John didn't lose consciousness and cause any more damage than he already had. "Can we get some help here?" Arthur called out when the two of you reached camp. "JOHN! JOHN! OH MY-YOU'RE ALIVE!" Abigail rushed to Arthur's horse, Charles and Bill dragging him off and leading him to his cabin, "Come on let's get you warm. Thank you, Arthur, Y/N. Thank you, thank you!" "Not a problem, Abigail. He's all bandaged up. Just let him rest for now and I'll be back over in a bit to start stitching them up" "Thank you both" she hugged you, rushing into the cabin muttering "This is a new low, even for you, John Marston" "Come on Darlin'" Arthur mumbled in your ear, placing his hand on his waist and leading you towards the cabin, "Let's go get warm" "Y/N! ARTHUR!" Jack came running after the two of you. "Hey, what are you doing out here? You'll get sick! Get back inside!" You scolded him gently, crouching down to his level. "I made you this, as a thank you" he held out the piece of paper with his drawing, clearly of the three of you and his snowman. "This is beautiful, Jackie. You should become an artist one day" "I want to be a knight!" "You can be both" you smiled, "Now get back inside before your mother finds us and tells us both off. I don't know about you but I don't want a smacked bottom" "You're right. See you soon!" He ran off back towards his parents. You stood back up and showed the picture to Arthur, feeling your heart melt when he smiled at the picture. "Let's have one. Please. Please, please, please" he begged, tugging on your coat like a kid. "I'll think about it" you smiled slyly, walking past him into your cabin, leaving the big tough cowboy a big smiling mess. He followed you inside and pinned the picture to the door, staring at it with the biggest grin. You slid your arms around him, putting your head on his shoulder, looking at the picture with him. "I thought about it" Arthur looked down at you with a smirk, "Oh yeah?" "Yeah. Let's have one"
