"Am I the only one

Wishing life away?

Never caught up in the moment

Busy begging the past to stay

Memories painted with much brighter ink

They tell me I loved, teach me how to think.

I'm sick of faking diary entries

Got to get it in my head I'll never be sixteen again

I'm waiting to live, still waiting to love

Oh it'll be over, and I'll still be asking when

Oh, it'll be over, and I'll still be asking when."

The crowd was silent. I closed my eyes and rested against the piano. I looked up at him. He was still, his eyes on me.

"Sherlock Holmes," I started. "You are one of the most brilliant people I've ever met. I've had the pleasure of knowing you my entire life; from primary school through college.

"You are kind, whether you chose to believe me or not. You want to help the world be a better place despite being an asshole doing it." the crowd chuckled, and I smiled softly. "I guess what I'm trying to say is that even though we've been enemies for a very long time, I've always loved you."

He was stunned, I could tell that much. He didn't say anything, and I sighed in defeat. At least I told him despite that he knew now. I should have known he'd never like me back.

"I love you, too," he spoke softly, a smile on his face.

I let out the breath I had been holding and smiled. The crowd cheered as he pulled me over for a hug. I wiped my tears away and held his hand, facing the crowd. "Thank you, London, for being here tonight, and for kicking off my tour!" I shouted, taking a bow with Sherlock.

We went backstage where (S/N), John, and Mrs. Hudson were chatting. They were handing money to (S/N), who was smiling smugly.

"What's going on here?" I asked.

"You're sister bet us a while ago that you two would end up together tonight." John sighed, handing her the final pound of what he owed. "I swear, she's like a mini Sherlock."

"I always knew they would get together," Mrs. Hudson gushed, hugging the both of us.

Everyone was silent, and slowly my smile fell. "What's going to happen now?" I asked aloud.

"We all live happily ever after, of course," John replied.

"You're going on tour," (S/N) reminded us softly.

I turned to Sherlock, whose smile had also fallen. "I could go on tour with you," he suggested, and I lit up. It was perfect; he could keep playing and I wouldn't have to change my setlist.

"You can't go on a three-month tour, Sherlock," John said. "London needs you, solving crimes."

I sighed. I looked up into his greenish-blueish eyes, another tear threatening to fall. "So now, which is it?" I asked. "Do you come on tour with me, or do you stay here, keeping London safe from crime?"

They tell me I loved, teach me how to think.

-The End-

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A.N: Hello everyone!  Thank you for reading the conclusion of Keys and Strings! I really like this chapter a lot, just because of how it played out.  As soon as I listened to 'When', I knew I wanted this song to be the ending chapter.
Now, you may be wondering what's next for my account. I have a couple of Newsies fanfics planned, one that I've been constantly working on, and another that I think will be really cute but have a sad ending using the music from La La Land (which if you haven't watched it, watch it!).
I also want to write some historical fiction but I haven't really dived into that yet.
Also, Keys and Strings will get a sequel! I have some Dodie songs picked out that I wanna use to write one, but I don't know when that'll be up.
If you enjoyed Keys and Strings, please feel free to vote, comment, and share with your friends! And while you're at it, I have another Sherlock story too called 'Youngblood'. You're Moriarty's wife in that story, and it doesn't really have a happy ending. There's some bonus, holiday-themed chapters after the story that do give you a glimpse into what it'd be like if you were still around.
This author's note is already long enough. Thank you so much for reading!
Until next time,
~Em
