Sabine

Sleep was the only place where the voice fell mute. At first, she was terrified of the dreams that might plague her, but somehow she found a semblance of respite when everything was dark and silent.

When she ate, the whispers urged her to do terrible things, to use the dull knife in her hand on the innocent families around her. So she stopped eating.

Time bled into days and nights, but the hard biscuits always appeared on her sheets. Otherwise, she didn't see Cassian, and she had no problem with that. It seemed shameful for him to witness the clouds of despair that she waded through everyday, but not enough to inspire her to leave.

Instead, Sabine remained in bed and slept.
