Legacy

A shot rang out through darkness deep
A tear ran down a pale cheek
Not one knew who committed such
Deep sorrow no one wished to touch

A king had fallen
A prince would rise
Steel shot through the family tie

The queen would weep
Her king still sleeps
His slumber lasts forever

The sun still shone on robes of white
The circlet of gold still shimmered bright
The eldest rose and took his seat
His father's hand would guild his feet

Hail the king
They praised and roared
Their cheers they touched the furthest shores

But after all is said and done
They forget the father of the son
The son does not
He still laments
About the loss he had to dread

It wasn't wanted
But still it gave
And now he stands at fresh earth grave

Here lies a king
A father too
A loving husband who always knew
His time would come
That time was now
Those left behind were asking how

He made a promise
A whispered plea
He'd never die on bended knee
He'd govern strong
But still with grace
And never have to hide his face
He'd keep his courage
And never lie
But still he had to say goodbye

Goodbye my father
I won't forget
And there he left from where he sits

He led his people
And governed strong
He earned their love
He still belongs

The years had passed
He might forget
About who he loved and where they sit
A child's hand now lays in his
The mother rules alongside of him

They smile wide
The kingdom thrives
The age would last forever

Now he lays alone in bed
The years passed by and now comes death
He knows it's coming and still he smiles
Because he knows he didn't forget

His promise made is still kept tight
And now he'll go to see the light
His father's proud
That's all he needs
And now they'll join above the trees

His son will rise
And so begins
The page will turn
His stories end
But still there lies the whispered plot
How grandfather was not forgot
A righteous king will reign still strong
He'll finally find where he belongs

He'll lead with courage
And never lie
But still he has to say goodbye

A/N I hope you enjoyed reading this little snippet that I had bouncing around in my head forever. =p I had this idea of a father back in medieval time being shot and then his son remembering him. Then... this happened... lol.

Anywho, like I said, hope you liked it and thanks for reading!

P.S. ...Please vote if you did happen to like this... but you don't have to... just a small thought. Thanks! :D

P.P.S. Btw, if you want you can leave a poem prompt. I've always wanted to try one of those. That really is all now. Ttys.
