Just as she starts to shade, there's a ping from her phone.

uh...hey

Who is this?

oh right, jasper

i'm your new neighbor

your mom gave me your number

well, gave my mom to give to me

Oh, ok.

sorry for bothering you

kara kinda..wanted me to come over and say hi but i'm too awkward to so this was my next best option

Understandable.

Willa lets out a relieved sigh, glad that he didn't go through with it. Her insecurities and introverted-mess of a personality wouldn't know how to handle the situation. She would either freeze at the door and completely make a fool of herself or pretend to be sleeping—in the middle of the day—just to avoid the panicked heart rate that comes with talking to someone new.

is there really no neighbors for twenty miles?

Yeah. Pretty quiet out here.

But, if it meant talking over text rather than in person, then Willa didn't mind...as much.

any cool landmarks or trails around here?

Nope.

Yet, this is a lie. Somewhere between both of their houses is a trail twisting through the woods. It's fifteen minute walk leads to a beautiful lake surrounded by little orange flowers and luscious green grass.

She spends a lot of her time there thinking, drawing the scenery and enjoying the everlasting peace. No neighbors and no mean kids leads to a much happier lifestyle, for them that is.

oh ok

anything else i should know or be aware of?

Yeah. Don't hurt my fireflies.

your what?

🥀

This will start to get longer as the story goes on but not actual narrative long. Keeping each chapter probably around 500-600 words is the goal.

What do you think she meant by her last line? Will it have significance later on?
