Chapter 13: Sick

Waiting.

This is a concept that I’m not used to. I’m not used to waiting in my bedroom. I’m not used to having nothing to do other than just tossing a basketball around. I’m not used to just staring at the ceiling. The only person I’ve waited for before used to be Maura. So obviously I haven’t waited for somebody in a while and oddly enough, I like it.

I like having alone time for myself even if it is only for a little bit. I like not having to worry about my grades for a moment or about my child. Just relaxing. Plus it gives me a blissful feeling at the fact that I actually get to spend time with friends shortly. I get a break.

I sit up, glancing at my phone. I look at the song I currently have playing and it’s Everybody’s Watching Me by the Neighborhood. I’m not too big of a fan of that particular band, but they’re alright enough. I click the next button and my jam, Bartender by T-Pain, starts playing. I nearly get up and start dancing. I probably would have too if Zayn and Hazel didn’t choose that moment to enter.

“Hey mate,” Zayn announces as he talks off his jacket. It’s Hallow’s Eve so I can’t spend too much time with these guys, but I’ll make the most of what time I do spend with them.

“Hi,” I mumble as I turn off my tunes.

“That music reminds me of something a friend of mine would play back home,” Hazel nearly giggles. She noticed. Alright.

“Well it’s good shit so I don’t blame them,” I respond, grabbing a pop from the fridge.

“It’s alright. I prefer some other bands,” she responds, sitting on Zayn’s bed with him.

“Like what?” I question, raising an eyebrow. Who’s better than Drake and T-Pain?

“She likes Of Mice & Men, Attila, All Time Low and all of those other Warped Bands,” Zayn answers for her. Wow. I definitely didn’t see that one coming.

“Well you can shut up because those bands are the shit,” she giggles at Zayn, holding her fingers up in a sassy way. Oh goodness.

“I’m not sure. I prefer my own thing,” I inform her.

“I do tend to enjoy Liam’s music more than yours,” Zayn says supporting me. I know he likes the same music as me though, it’s what helped us get along so well.

“You guys suck so bad,” she laughs. Either she’s crazy or laughing is just her way of dealing with things. I’m about to reply with a witty comeback, but my phone starts ringing. Confused, I accept the call.

“Hey mate, what’s up?” I ask upon looking at the caller ID.

“Hi Liam. It’s Ben. I think he’s catching a cold and we’ve run out of supplies down here for him and I don’t know what medicine you’d prefer for us to give him,” Harry rambles, obviously freaking out a bit. Shit. I don’t know any of this stuff.

“Is Shawny home?” I ask him.

“No. She left once I got home. I don’t know what to do and these kids are just absolutely hectic right now. I know you’re busy, but do you think that you could possibly help me? I’m so sorry,” he says absolutely frantic. Jesus.

“Um sure. Yeah. I’ll stop at the pharmacy on the way or something. I’ll be there as soon as buses will let me be,” I tell him and hang up, looking at my obviously confused friends.

“Vas Happenin?” Zayn asks me, obviously wanting to know. (sorry, I just had to)

“There’s a problem with uh Benjamin, I uh Niall’s dog? He doesn’t know what to do and wants me to come check it out I suppose,” I shrug, holding on to the fact that I almost let it slip that Benjamin was indeed, my child.
