Mother, you know he was too smart to take me.

So I followed into that gaping hole in the earth,
rimmed in grass dry with death.

I slipped into the depths of his hell,
a willing slave to his dark, quiet eyes, cold hands.

l wasn't going to stay forever.

He was too smart to make me,
so he tricked me into a crown.
I was never a captive
until I sought my freedom.
