The waiting Game

He sat us down,
Sweat dripping from his face,
Glasses slipping to the edge of his nose,
Tells us he loves us,
But he has bad news for us,
Told us he was sick,
It's in his bones,
His blood,
His whole body,
He said it's terminal,but he'll be okay,
I didn't understand what that meant,
Until the day he left us,
Until the day mum told us he was gone,
The heart ache I felt when I heard those three words,
Collapsed into her arms,
She must be made of steel,
All fifty kilograms struggling to make its way around her,
I told myself to breathe,I told her I'm strong,
I can barely remember what it felt like to hold him,to feel the touch of his kisses,
To feel the warmth of his hugs,
I never understood why people say,
"They're in a better place now",
Until the moment he left,
That's when I understood,
The pain he felt, the love he lost,
All the memories,
All the laughter,
All the storytelling,
Were all in a better place now.

I love you,
