"I just- don't get around much." I say through my teeth. He nods.
"Well, get around more then." He smiles at me, and I'm shocked for a moment. It's a real one. I cannot remember the last time anyone's smiled at me like that.
It certainly was not her.
"Okay." Is all I say. Suddenly, the buzzer goes off. Mine. She's looking for me.
"I have to go." I say quickly and dismissively, starting down the hallway and making to leave him behind me.
"Wait!" He calls out after me as I go. I spin around.
"What?"
"Julian." He says. Julian. Julian. I nod, then turn. "Who are you?" He asks. I pause, thinking of walking away, obeying the rules. My rules.
"You don't want to know me." None of them do. It will just harm them if they get close to me.
With that, I turn on my heel and head down the hallway without another glance.

"You ready?" I open my eyes to Julian hovering above me, peering down.
I blink.
He's same Julian from the vision, from the dream.
My mouth drops to hand open, and I can't form proper words.
"What?" He asks.
"Nothing, I-" I stutter, gaping like some deranged idiot. Perhaps I am one.
"Well get up, we're leaving." He says. I just stare at him some more. "You wanted this, greenie." He says, chuckling before leaving me alone in my hammock.
Processing the vision only makes the pounding in my head worse.
Maybe it wasn't a vision.
Maybe it was a memory.
And what does Julian's presence within it mean?
"I'm coming!" I yell a little too loudly, jumping out of my hammock. It's early, and the sun is barely rising; it casts a warm, orange glow around the homestead.
I swing open the divider to Newt lying in his hammock, asleep. His eyes are closed, and he breathes softly through gently parted lips.
"Y/n!" Julian calls, "Gabe's waiting."
I look down at Newt sleeping peacefully in the hammock. It'll just be a day; I'll be back soon, but somehow I'm not sated. Perhaps its the content look on his face, the steady up curve of his lip, or the way his hair falls across his eyes.
Without another thought, I quickly lean down and press my lips to his cheek.
Lightly, careful not to wake him. I pull away after second, and force myself to continue through the homestead. Pulling the curtain shut, I quickly make my way outside, away from Newt, where Julian is waiting with Gabe, one of the runners.
We meet by the maze doors. Gabe, a runner- short blonde hair and a goofy smile- is leaning against the door next to Julian. They speak to each other quietly, chuckling every now and then.
I admit I'd like to be at ease as they are, but there's a strange feeling in my gut about this.
Suddenly, the doors begin to creak. Julian looks up to me.
"You're sure?" I nod.
He stares for a moment before turning and taking off. I follow behind, at first uncertain, but as I sprint through the entrance to the maze, the pounding in my ears and rush of wind through my hair feels like home- whatever my home ever was.
