Sunlight leaked in through the bedroom window, plunging the whole room into blaring light. I pulled my duvet covers up over my face and groaned, hoping to catch a few more minutes of sleep in the total darkness, no way was it morning already. I rolled over onto my side and squeezed my eyes shut, willing more sleep to come quickly. I was left disappointed and I reluctantly began to open my eyes once more, it suddenly occurred to me that it was practically day light outside already. My eyes widened in alarm, as I scrambled to find my phone to check the time, comprehending that I had fallen back asleep after my alarm had originally gone off.

"Shit shit shit, fuck fuck." I mumbled as I unlocked my phone. My phone screen revealed the horrifying truth to me, it was 8.10AM; Dad was dropping me at the airport in exactly 35 Minutes. I jumped out of bed and ran across the landing, pushing open the bathroom door. I began to wash my face and brush my teeth, praying frantically that I wouldn't be late- I hated being late. I finished brushing my teeth and went to check on my luggage, making sure I had everything packed. I noticed I had a message from Maeve pop up on my phone, wishing me a safe flight. I was so excited to see her, spending the summer in Vancouver was pretty much a dream come true, my mind started wondering to the excitement that awaited me when I got off the plane, before snapping back into reality and rushing into my room to gather all my things together. I grabbed an outfit to wear, my black cord skirt and my tan long sleeved jumper, I pulled the tights ferociously up my legs trying not to fall flat on my arse as I did and shoved some socks onto my feet. I ran my fingers through my hair, dabbed on some concealer and headed downstairs to pour some cereal, the first box I grabbed was Cookie Crisp and I poured it into a bowl, splashing some milk over it. The house was incredibly quiet, my mom had already left to go to work and my dad, who often worked away, was travelling back to drop me off.

Luckily I had packed my luggage the night before, and so I carried it down the stairs, trying desperately not to go toppling from top to bottom as I wrestled with the weight of the case, managing to place it safely by the front door. I pulled my black coat over my shoulders and picked up my handbag, placing my bowl in the sink. A quick check of time informed me I had 10 minutes until Dad arrived, I zipped up my coat and double checked my handbag for my passport and boarding pass.

"Ready to go." I mumbled to myself with a small smile of relief on my face, I grabbed my case and headed out the door, ready to jump straight into the car when dad pulled up. I locked the door behind me, just as my dad pulled up outside, thank god he was early. I lifted my suitcase into the boot of the car and climbed into the front seat, putting my seatbelt on. We hadn't left a huge amount of time to arrive at the airport before my flight, so I was desperately hoping there wouldn't be much traffic. I watched as dad slammed the car into gear and pulled out of the grove.

"Hey Sweetheart, you get everything packed okay?" I nodded, silently answering his question as he sped up towards the traffic lights and managed to make it through on amber, pushing the car into fourth gear.

"You have got your passport and ticket haven't you?" I nodded once more, watching as relief spread over his face. Luckily we only lived twenty minutes from the airport, I watched as our speed went up to just above forty miles an hour, clutching onto the handle on the door to steady myself. I saw my dad glance over, his speed decreasing slightly as to not alarm me.

"Dad don't worry we will get there my flight isn't scheduled to take off until 10.45am, we have time." He seemed to take my comments on board, I saw as he relaxed slightly as if it was okay as long as it was okay with me, I hid my panic well. My palms were sweaty at the thought of being the last one on the plane, missing the check in window or getting stuck in the queues at security. The traffic, although still heavy, was generous to us, highlighting how lighter the traffic was when the schools were off for the holidays. We managed to pull up outside the airport at 9.20am, both of us rushing out the car and pulling my luggage out of the boot. I saw my dad smile at me, kissing me on the forehead, and double and triple checking I had everything I need.

"I am gonna miss you kid, you be safe okay? Don't forget to keep us updated and be nice to your aunt. Make sure you eat plenty, and don't be stuck in your room all day." He pulled me in for a big bear hug, the realisation hitting me that despite me being used to him being away for long periods of time, the fact that I wasn't going to him for three months brought small tears to my eyes. I hugged him tighter, desperately trying to stop the tears from escaping.

"I'll miss you dad, you take care of yourself and Mom, make sure you take your medication every day the both of you, and try not to worry yourselves too much, I will be completely fine. I will see you soon." He kissed my head once more, as I pulled my handbag over my shoulder and wheeled my case away from the car; he climbed into the car blowing me a kiss before driving away, his eyes flitting from the front window to the rear-view mirror as I waved in his direction. I headed towards the airport entrance, wheeling my suitcase behind me; the time showed me it was 9.30am, which meant I had fifteen minutes to get through the check in desk until it closed. I prayed silently, hoping that the queue would be short enough for me to make it in time. Surprisingly the queue was short enough for me to check in and drop my case off just in time, grabbing my ticket and heading off to the security checks. By the time I made it to the departure lounge, the flight was boarding. I took a deep breath, determined not to be the last one on that flight. I clutched my boarding pass, almost gearing myself up for the march towards the gate; I headed towards it, my legs moving the fastest they had ever moved, desperate to make it on time. I headed down the corridor, my handbag slipping off my shoulder, my palms remaining sweaty.

"I am going to make it; I will not miss this flight." I mumbled to myself as I headed around the last corner, seeing the entrance to the plane at the end. I reached the flight attendant handing over my ticket, as she showed me to my seat. I settled in, placing my handbag under the seat and fastening my seatbelt. Relief washed over me like a wave crashing onto the beach, I took a deep breath in, putting in my headphones and preparing myself for the sixteen and a half hour flight that lay ahead of me.
