"She's not a fucking animal, you know,"
Michael grumbled as he lay her down on her bed.
Her mouth was open a little and her cheeks were tear stained, but she looked peaceful. so peaceful that michael wanted her to lay in his lap while he played with her hair.
That was weird, he told himself. She held a gun to your head. You shouldn't think of her like that.
The doctor looked at him, confused.
"Sedating her like that. She is not a wild animal." Michael spoke. The doctor rolled his eyes. Michael liked him less than Mina did.
The doctor looked at the red marks on Michael's neck where Mina had strangled him. "I will stop treating her as one when she stops acting like one."
Michael's fists clenched. He didn't say anything.
"Could i wait here until she wakes up?" he asked eventually, using a voice that he hoped didn't sound angry.
"Sure. But i will not be held responsible for what happens when she wakes up." The doctor said and left the room.
Michael replied with a short 'whatever' and sat on the other bed in the room.
The room was small and bleak. It's walls needed repainting and the flooring was squeaky in places. There was a small window that's latch didn't work properly, so the constant breeze made him shiver. It was dull. Depressing.
The bed's covers were dry and scratchy, and it made Michael want to wrap her in something soft- her bare arms were pushed against the covers and she must have been cold.
An hour passed.
Michael found himself wandering a little, becoming uncomfortable. He didn't know what would happen when she woke. Would she attack him?
A second hour passed and Michael found himself checking his hair in the small grubby mirror next to the door. He thought he looked okay, despite the bruising. He didn't know why he cared so much as to check, but hopefully he and Mina would be able to meet properly without guns and violence and fear soon. He wanted to look okay even if he didn't feel it.
A third hour passed and Michael found himself close to leaving. He was bored to say the least. He was talking himself in and out of staying- he told himself she clearly doesn't want to see him so he should leave, but he had waited three hours so he may as well stay.
Four hours. Michael found himself just looking at Mina. She looked awful. Scary. Like she could kill someone.
Five hours. Michael found himself getting small cramps. He sighed and ran his hands through his hair- he was extremely tired now.
Then she groaned and rolled over. Michael stood up rapidly, a sudden fear overtaking him: he was ready to defend himself if necessary.
But she was just... Normal? She was just like any teenager waking up: disgruntled and a little pissed off. No screaming, no fists, no attacking.
She grumbled a little and slowly opened her eyes. She looked at Michael and quickly dismissed him, like she didn't know who he was. He breathed a sigh of relief.
Maybe he should stop treating her like a wild animal.
"Ugh."
"I can- i can leave if you want," michael stuttered.
"Uuuuugh." she grumbled again, shutting him up and turning away from him. "Grab me a drink?" she asked, and michael passed her the glass of water the doctor had left for her.
So far so good, he thought. No violence. Yet.
She sat up slowly, sipping her drink.
"My throat kills." She croaked. Michael didn't know what to say or do. He just sort of stood there. He nodded at her and she finally looked at him. He watched her eyes go wide.
"Oh." she whispered, like she finally realised. "You."
"Yeah." He shrugged awkwardly. She coughed, sounding like she was choking a little. Michael felt nervous.
"I'm Mina," she whispered in a voice so controlled it was almost robotic. she noticed the purpling bruise on his jaw and the marks on his neck. "I'm sorry."
He shook his head and sat on the edge of her bed. "it's okay. uh, I'm Michael. And you tried to kill me." He sighed.
