Tainted The Tainted.
Emmalina's brother had never been the same since Emmalina disappeared. It was his and her birthday in a month, he was dreading it. No longer would it be a celebration of the birth of two beautiful babies born minutes apart, but a reminder that Emmalina was gone. They usually had a big party with their massive family, large group of friends and most of their street attending, barring platters of sandwiches and chicken nuggets. As they got older the parties got more and more lame and childish but it was still great because everyone they loved was there celebrating their birthdays. People that lived out of town usually didn't stay for Emmalina's birthday long, if they did at all. She said she didn't mind but her brother knew it bothered her. She always had a crush on her cousin's best friend who used to come from Canada with her cousin on their birthday because of how close they were. He was manly her bother, Isack's friend because he was two years older and hardly noticed her just developing curves and slightly pudgy frame.
The first birthday passed painfully for the whole neighbourhood, especially painfully for the family. There was no party, the whole family was there, holding the shaking shoulders of the distraught family to their chests with tears of their own falling down their blotchy faces. The brother just stayed in his room remembering what he said just before she left for what he thought was a few hours but turned out to be two years.
Emmalina came out of her room tucking a picture of her brother and her years before in the room they shared, into the front pocket of her dark skinny jeans and smoothed down her white shirt, smirking at her brother who had a worried line on his forehead. When she got to the bottom she put the picture in her coat pocket that was hanging by the front door.
"What's in your pocket?" Isack asked.
"Nothing" She smiled innocently with bright eyes, as if butter wouldn't melt.
"Emmalina" he warned.
She cringed, closing her eyes then opening them again one at a time "Yes?" she had started moving slightly side to side as she always did when she was about to lie or hiding anything.
"What's in your pocket?" he repeated. He could almost see the embarrassing picture of him though the coat that she was lazily blocking with her body.
She has ignored him and started putting on her black jacket slowly not breaking eye contact with her brother. Ever so slowly, like a cat, making no noise with her feet. She stole a peice of abandoned, cold toast that one of her family members must have left on the island. He followed her and stood in front of her with his arms folded. She finished the toast "I'm going out" She said walking towards the door, opening it and standing outside.
"Where are you going?" he asked a bit like a small child.
She scowled "Out" She started to walk away.
He stopped her "My leg hurts"
"So? Tell mum, I don't care. Go to the doctor, hope it feels better soon. Bye!" she ran away, fast like light.
"Come back" he started to run after her.
She threw her head back and laughed "Go home!"
"Let me come"
"You're in your pyjamas!" she stopped running and walked towards her twin brother.
He also stopped running and looked at himself then sighed "I'll see you then"
She nodded patting his head "Sure"
