It's been a week since we sent out our letters. Today Mrs. Wisenburg announced that our letters have arrived to our school.

"I have some exciting news class! Your letters arrived!" There was dead silence as I let out a little squeal. Everyone looked at me and kind of smiled. I didn't really care because I was to focused on when Mrs. Wisenburg would give me Ponyboy's letter.

"Here you go, Ariana." Mrs. Wisenburg said.

"Thank you." I said as I opened the neatly folded paper. I started reading the letter:

Dear Ariana,

Nice to meet you, Ariana. As you probably know, my name is Ponyboy. (yes, that is my real name. It says so on my birth certificate.) I also got a brother named Sodapop! He's a real fun guy. He always has his head in the clouds and is always happy. He dropped out of high school to work full time at a gas station so he can support us. My oldest brother, Darry, is hardworking. He has been ever since our parents died in an auto-wreck. He has to work two jobs. He loves football and was even the captain of the football team in high school. He even got a scholarship to go to college. But he didn't go because he has to take care of Soda and I. Soda's 17 and Darry's 20. I'm 14. You might be thinking, "Aren't you a little too young to be in high school?" Well, I'm a grade ahead because I'm smarter than most of the other kids my age. Oh, and I'm also a greaser. If you wanted to know.

Your friend,

Ponyboy Curtis

"Wow." I whispered to myself when I finished reading the letter. "Wow what?" Becca said as she snatched the letter out of my hands to read it.

"Oh my gosh! He's 14! It's like your writing to a middle schooler. Wow, I feel bad for you." Rebecca said half laughing.

"Why do you feel bad for me? I think he's really interesting." I said a little annoyed by Becca's comment.

"Whatever. My pen pal's name is Randy and he seems like a real bad boy." Becca said excitedly. The bell rang,

"Bye, Ariana." Becca said.

"Bye, Becca." I replied. I was a little sad. Sometimes Becca can be mean without even realizing it, but I get over it quickly. I always do.
