Because of the comment I got from editors, dismissing the novel for it being set in the past--but not far enough in the past to categorize into one market--I ended up making the sequel in modern day South Central Los Angeles. I changed up the previous plot, feeling that I needed to work on what already existed.
Unlike Tethered Hearts, though, it is set in high school.
Here's the Summary:
Sweeping my curls with his hand, he held my face, forcing me to look at him as he said: "Someone should've gotten you a manual for this place."
I muffled a laugh, though deep down wanted to fall into a fetal position. He was so much more handsome up close like this, angelic almost - disregarding the tattoo inscribed on the side of his neck.
"I think I've got the hang of it around here." I remarked, smiling, "Stop worrying about me."
"The thing is, I can't stop," he admitted. "And I won't."

Spoiled rich teen, Sydney Webster, has the world at her fingertips, though loses it in an instant when she hears of her father's death.
Kicked out of the mansion she called home in Malibu, Sydney is forced to move in with her aunt and her three kids in a tiny apartment. Sydney goes from going to prestigious schools and attending yacht parties to having to walk through metal detectors before entering homeroom, gang violence brewing inside the school, and a posey of mean girls ready to put Sydney in her place and remind her where she's at on the food chain.
Luckily for her, there's a savior in the chaos, Picasso Hudson. He's covered in tattoos, is the star athlete on campus, and has a criminal record. He gives her aunt a fright when she meets him, disapproving her interactions with him. There's a reason for her warning. Picasso has too many secrets up his sleeve with no intention to share. It's Sydney's job, though, to unearth the startling truth.
