flames

60 16 8

you stood
a mighty tower
standing strong
even as they poured the gasoline
in scalding circles
around you feet

they lit a match
a single young flame
and it met its march
in the gasoline

the flame licked it up
growing stronger and brighter
drawing a circle of flames around you

you stayed however
a tower unbreakable
in the midst of the fire

it burned
oh how it burned—
the poets still speak of it
to those day

but you still stood unmovable

the fire reached you now
lapping at your clothes and skin
until it seemed to burn you to a crisp

but you are still there—unmovable

you move in the fire
and dance in its light
and let the world know
that you will never be
fully engulfed by life's flames

you move in the fireand dance in its lightand let the world knowthat you will never be fully engulfed by life's flames
