captive

219 41 27

sometimes
it first grips the tips of my toes
swallowing them in its vicious grip
winding up my feet
taking captive my every cell

it travels up my legs
seizing all possible ways of movement as it goes

its next captive is my hips
as it takes more territory still
until it meets my stomach
sending waves of queasiness

it finally reaches my chest
it's unrelenting fury never ceasing
as it pounds all of its strength into my lungs
this breath that once was mine
is taken in its grip

it does not stop however
one final destination in its mind
surging towards my brain with strength

it annihilates the fringes of my brain
no longer asking for permission
sending me spiraling into madness

this body you call mine
is no long mine when i am taken captive

or sometimes
it waits to make its appearance
and my hope that it will not arrive
is utterly destroyed when
it crashes over me like waves upon a beach

this body you call mine
is no longer mine when i am taken captive
by a force i cannot understand

this body you call mineis no longer mine when i am taken captiveby a force i cannot understand
