When Stragedy Strikes

The scene that laid in front of me was absolutely terrifying and horrific. The ambulance has just came and people were all around the place watching the incident that was taking place for the past hour. Sounds and voices were being heard from everywhere and I stood amongst all of these as a plain observer.

"Are you okay, Miss?" A policeman asks me worried.

"Y-Yes." I stutter and stare in the emptiness of the night.

"You have to be taken to the hospital immediately." A nurse from the ambulance speaks to me and I nod, as I start following her to the vehicle.

All the way to the hospital, I kept thinking of everything that has happened in so little time, in the span of an hour. The drive back to my home from a night out with some classmates of mine, the casual talk I had with my parents in the car, the motorcycle that crashed on to the car's glass out of the blue, my mum and dad bumping from their front seats and hitting their heads and bodies in the process, blood coming out of everywhere and filling the entire car, their dead bodies being transferred with another vehicle to the morgue, myself shaking in fear and helplessness. Everything escalated in such a short amount of time, that I had not time to comprehend, what has happened, and I felt completely and utterly alone with no one left to be by my side for this difficult time that I had to overcome.

All that I can do for now is go to where I am told and try to calm myself. After that, I have no idea what will happen.

It was nearly morning and I was still stuck in that hospital room, because the doctors told me I had to stay, since I had no one to take care of me. Another painful reminder that my parents were gone forever.

Currently, I was munching on the food in front of me that the nurses had brought for me. At least, I was not starving. That counts for something, I guess.

While I was too invested in my breakfast, a man has come in the room and was standing there, waiting for me to acknowledge his presence.

"Um, hello."

"Good morning, Miss Burke." He greeted and I looked at him with a surprised look plastered on my face.

"Do you know me?" I ask him hesitantly.

"I am your parents' lawyer." He answered my question and sat on the chair by the bed, I was laying on for the past few hours.

That explains why he is wearing a suit and tie, while the sun is practically just coming out.I nod for him to go on with what he had to say.

"Your parents have left a will for you, in which they leave all of their fortune to you. However, you are not going to be able to have access to it until you're 18. Which leads me to the next point of their will. They have set as your guardian Mr. and Mrs. Evans, who are also going to be the ones to handle their fortune, until you're a legal adult."

"Who are these people?"

"They are your parents' friends and they live in California."

"Wait, what? Does that mean I have to move there?" She shots him with questions.

"I am afraid so and this must be done as soon as possible, as well."

"I am sorry that your life had to change this way and so drastically, but maybe it is for the better."

"Yeah. Maybe." I muttered and he left, giving me a sympathetic look, before he did so.

I was still trying to get through my brain what the lawyer has told me about my parents'will. How come they have never told me this before? I haven't even heard them discussing about it. When did they decide to do this? And who were these people that I'm supposed to live with? Did I know them? And besides everything elsez I had to move states. What the hell?
