-[Charlotte]-

- Seven years ago –

I had just arrived in New York and was lucky enough to score a job at Tate's Advertising while I was still studying my degree in graphic design.

Johnathon Tate was the best boss you could ever ask for. I was his personal assistant and consultant when he needed me. He was practically my second dad. I was lucky enough to have him treat me as his daughter.

There was one problem though.

His son, Alexander.

Alex and I never got along the whole time I have worked there. He was the most arrogant, annoying, disrespectful arsehole I have had the displeasure of meeting. He would use every chance he got to insult me, annoy me or belittle me.

To this day, I still don't know what I did to deserve it.

Fast forward two years and I'm currently standing in Mr Tate's office after handing in my letter of resignation, I didn't want to leave but at this point, I have no choice. And of course, douche canoe is here again. The boy doesn't even work here.

"Charlotte, I don't understand. Why are you leaving? I thought you have enjoyed your time here for the last two years?" Johnathon asked.

"I have sir, it's just time for me to move on and start focusing on my education. I'm nearly finished my degree, so I want to focus on that and prepare myself for designing jobs. I am grateful for the opportunity you have given me, but this won't be the last time you see me. I'll come to visit when I can," I replied trying to hold back tears.

Johnathon doesn't need to know that I'm leaving because of his son. The last two years have been unbearable, and I just can't deal with it anymore. I need to get away from him.

"No, thank you for being the best assistant and adopted daughter this old man could ever want. I have enjoyed your company over the last two years and hope you achieve everything you get your mind to," Johnathon replies.

We hugged and I left his office to finish the rest of the day. Until the devil, himself appears.

"Now Lotte, why did you lie to daddy dearest?" Alex asked sarcastically.

"One, I did not lie, I am leaving to focus on school and two, do not call me Lotte!" I replied trying to control my temper.

He knows I hate the name Lotte, yet still uses it. I'm surprised I've controlled my temper this long, to be honest.

"Well, aren't we just two scoops of grumpy in a bowl full of bitchy this morning?" he chuckles.

"I don't believe that one bit. I know you just can't stand to be around me, so you've decided to quit like the loser you are. It's alright sweet Lotte, you won't be missed," he chuckled while walking to the elevators.

"Go to hell," I shout back.

He laughs, the douchebag actually laughs.

"Oh sweetheart, where do you think I came from?" he countered as the elevator doors closed.

Ugh, always has to have the last word, jackass.

That was the last time I saw him and his father.

I couldn't come to visiting Johnathon in case I ran into Alex. I missed Johnathon so much.

- [Present Day] -

Alexander Tate.

Out of all the single twenty-six-year old's in New York, I get paired with this idiot. The devil himself. He still looks the same from the last time I saw him. Which was supposed to be forever, but I guess not.

Ugh, he still has those perfect emerald green eyes, light brown hair and the sexist body any girl would want.

Hold up girly! What the hell was that? He's the enemy remember?! UGH!

He's an idiot. And now my husband. Well for the next year at least, then goodbye Tate, hello single lady!

You can do this Charlotte, its only one year.

Yeah, one year of hell.

"Do you Charlotte Elizabeth Evans and Alexander Henry Tate pledge to share your lives openly with one another? Do you promise to love and care for one another? Cherish and encourage each other, stand together as one through sorrows, joys, hardships and triumphs for the rest of your lives?" the priest asked.

There was silence. I wonder if I can back out, I need someone to object, can I fake a heart attack? I move my eyes towards Rosie and Hannah wishing I could telepathically ask them to object.

Stop being a pussy Charlotte and answer the priest!

Ugh, shut up, no one asked you. "I do," we say simultaneously avoiding each other's eyes.

The priest continues until it's time to repeat our vows to each other, he is clearly oblivious to our tension.

"I, Alexander promise to love and support you Charlotte and live each day with kindness, understanding, truth, humour and passion. With this ring, I thee wed," he says confidently as he slips the ring onto my finger while smirking.

I swear to god, I will smack that smirk off his face!

I have my death stare down pat, well attempting to at least.

"I, Charlotte promise to love and support you Alexander and live each day with kindness, understanding, truth, humour and passion. With this ring, I thee wed," I reply trying to add emotion to my tone.

Keyword: trying. Lord if he only knew the truths I'm keeping. I don't think I will ever trust him enough with my secrets.

"You are now united for life. I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride."

Does he have to? Like honestly.

Alex leans forward and kisses me.

God his lips are soft. Cut it out Charlotte.

He leans down to my ear.

"Let the party begin my sweet Lotte."

He pulls back and smirks.

Again, with the smirk jackass.

Everyone cheers.

If they only knew.

And just like that, it's final. I'm married to the devil.

Who did I piss off to deserve this?!
