As I Watched You Walked By

JJ Dee

The story starts with a letter I recited to myself that I hope someday would magically reach you as you recited your vows on the altar.

Twenty Five

Dearest Darling,

I never thought I'd see the day I'll see you walking down, in an elegant white dress, on a velvety red carpet, at a Sunday afternoon just right when the summer started inside the church where I first heard you pray for the person you wish God would give you. I never thought, the smile would glow any brighter, almost as if you were trying to outshine the sun itself, almost as if you were trying to tell me how happy you are that you're now getting married. I never thought, you'd get any more gorgeous than you already are but don't get me wrong, even when we were still youngsters, thirteen at that, I already saw a beauty I never saw in anyone else but yours. God, how can you make such a perfect person? Your smiles that year, before we separated ways our elementary days, made me feel like we'll never part, they were so reassuring, and like the soft caress of the waves I drowned myself in every summer. Your smile is so warm, it made my cold nights survivable; you made me a survivor.

There were times, when our separated for the first time, because life was too much and we were looking for safe spaces we can rest in and I thought that would be better. But things got worse and like parallels, I thought we'd never touch again and I missed you so much you know. I didn't know what to do, or where will my branches continue to grow because I have been longing for your care. The space you left, I tried filling them up with love from brand new people that I meet on my lonely journey, but they never did; I always go back to you anyway. But I don't worry anymore, I'm burning this image of you, smiling so widely, beaming so brightly, in my memory, and I don't think I will be lonely at all in this lifetime at least. Marriage looks so good on you; you wear that diamond ring so damn well. I am clapping; my heart is clapping for you. After what I've done to you, I never thought you'd let me stand on the same ground with you again. You deserve all the happiness in the world, Kara. I'm sorry for being a coward.

My love for you grows eternally, Agatha

"And you may now kiss the bride." I really will love you always, Kara.
