"Paris!" The teacher snapped.
I jerked my head to the side, as my straight red hair bounced along side.
My hazel eyes widened, and with that, the teacher controlled her temper and breathed slowly, having the large and painful fake smile return to her old face.
"Thank you." She almost whispered, blinking slowly.
"As I was saying, Continental Drift is a very important process that happens time through time on Earth. It takes very, very, very long for it to happen, and I assure you that it wont anytime soon."
Every kid in the classroom sighed heavily, all except me. Why? Because I wasn't paying attention in the first place.
I was too busy dreaming about Grayson Tills. The cutest, most handsome boy in the world. If only Maggie would back off of him for one small second of her useless life, I would have him all to myself...
A small note went flying onto my desk, and I turned around to see Ari with one eyebrow risen to the ceiling, and one lowered to her eye. Her blonde hair was in a messy bun spiraled to the left side of her face as she tilted her head. Her blue eyes squinted in confusion.
I turned back and opened the crumpled note.
Just amazing how I seemed to get caught whenever I breathed wrong in Mrs. Patella's class, but when Ari threw a wad of notes at my desk, its was like Mrs. Patella was suddenly distracted?
Ari waited patiently as I read the note.
Dude whats up with u? Why u actin so weird?
I faced Ari again and mouthed to her.
"Daydreaming about Maggie letting me lay a finger on Grayson Tills at the party tonight" I smiled as I did it, and began kissing the air passionately. She laughed out loud by accident, and a covered her face. You could see her smile budding through her cupped face like a blooming flower. She began laughing out loud. The teacher faced me and frowned, clearly pretending that Ari didn't do anything wrong, which was totally wrong.
"This is the second time, Paris. Detention." She said loud enough for the whole class' attention to turn to me.
Maggie snarled at me and turned her head away.
What? Why does she always have to be like that, all the time? Is there any specific reason?
She looked away from me, and crossed her arms.
Uhm? I didn't do anything?
I faced away from her and fake smiled at the teacher.
"Yes Mrs. Patella." I said as politely as I could muster, which wasn't polite at all.
She nodded her head in that teachery kind of way, like when they know they are better than you, and sending you to detention makes them feel better about themselves, but it also just makes them look stupid.
I turned around and faced Ari again.
"Come with me to the party!!" I half mouthed and whispered to her.
She nodded and smiled politely at the teacher who glanced at her.
The bell from overhead rung, and everyone dashed out of the room, except me and Ari.
"Oh, Ari.. You don't have detention sweetie! Just Paris, you can leave." Mrs. Patella said in a very kind gesture, which was so unnecessary.
Ari looked around nervously, and walked out slowly, leaving me and Mrs. Patella in a room alone together.
Yeesh. This ought to be bad.
I looked straight at Mrs. Patella as my mind scanned the room, working hard to find an excuse to leave.
"My cat died!" I yelled.
"Pari-" the teacher began in a concerned and annoyed tone.
"My moms sick!"
"Come one Pari-"
"My little brother got in a car crash!" I yelled.
Wait, my brother can't drive! He's only 5!
"PARIS!" The teacher screamed, and I turned to her as if I heard her screams all the time, and they never phased me.
"Yes." I said in probably the most impolite way i've ever said anything.
"As a punishment for being in detention this week for almost every single day, you will stay after until 10:00 pm and wipe down ALL of your teacher's classrooms. You WILL stay in this school, and NOT LEAVE, as you are told. Do you understand?" She said loudly, like a general.
"Yessir." I said on purpose, my smile widening as she frowned.
"Thats an extra two hours!" she yelled walking towards the door.
"Wait! Mrs. Patella!" I yelled, but it was too late; She had already locked me in from the outside, meaning I was STUCK IN THIS DUMB CLASSROOM WITH NO WAY OUT UNTIL MIDNIGHT.
Well great.
I looked around the classroom to find something to play with, or something I wasn't supposed to be touching.
I squinted my eyes at the smart board, and sitting next to it on the Mrs. Patella's desk was a phone.
No, not mine. HERS.
I smiled mischievously and speed walked over to her desk. I picked up her phone and turned it on, looking at the messages.
There was an email from a random guy.
About school?
It must be a student.
I clicked on the email, and it brought me to the gmail app. It was from a kid named Quinn Rain.
Who's that?
My mind could only wonder.
Mrs. Patella, do you think you could raise my A to an A+? Thank you! Have an amazing weekend😊
Ohhh my god. What a teacher's pet.
I found my phone in her bucket inside her desk, and called Ari.
It rang for 5 minutes and she didn't answer. I called again; The same thing happened over and over and over again.
What the heck? Her phone was with her?
I checked the time on my phone, and it was 4:36.
Uggghhh.
still 8 hours to go.
I looked around the room again, and the only thing that was in her room was a box of tissues and water, which weren't going to do anything. I sighed, but I knew she was coming, so I quickly grabbed the box of tissues and started to wipe the desks down. The tissues started falling apart, and kinda made the desks more dirty than what they started off as.
I turned to face the door and Ms. Patella still wasn't coming.
It had been a few hours later, when I cleaned everything in the room, even the dirty floor. I was starting to get a little worried because Mrs. Patella hadn't once come by the door, at least that I know of, and I had called Ari about 7 or 8 times, and she still hadn't answered my calls, voicemails, or texts. I had resorted to calling my mom, but she didn't answer either. I was sitting in the back of the room, phone in hand, calling almost every contact in my phone possible.
No one picked up.
It was now 10:40, and I was locked in a room, with no one to help me out.
I felt small tears of fear start to trail down my cheek, and it felt as if my mind was against me. I was alert to sounds, especially the ringing of a phone.
...
Ring
...
Ring
...
Ring
...
I scrambled over the desks to answer my phone when all of the sudden the classroom phone, and Mrs. Patella's phone started ringing all at the same time with mine.
It was from the police. I went to answer all of them, but before I could even press the button they began to speak.
"Everyone near the town of Milford must evacuate immediately. Again, the town of Milford must evacuate immediately."
The phones turned off, and an uneasy ringing sound from them filled up the deathly silence of the empty classroom.
I quickly turned it off, and focused my mind onto the incredible silence of the school.
I was in the town of Milford.
I looked out of the classroom windows, and the hallways were dark, with glitching lights.
I could feel my bones chilling, and my hands shaking tremendously.
I tried opening the door, as if someone could've just walked by saying, 'Oh lemme just open this door! Why? 'Cause why not?'
It didn't budge.
I looked around the classroom. Its stillness somehow scared me, even though it had been like that the whole day. I ran over to Mrs. Patella's desk and opened the drawers. Inside was a small flashlight and bobby pins for her perfect bun.
I picked up both and sat in front of the door, a bobby pin in my right hand, and a flashlight in the other. I tried to pick the lock on the door. I squeezed the bobby pin inside the hole, and twisted it back and forth. The door budged a centimeter, then made a loud sound opening all the way. The door crept to the right, exposing the creepy hallway. I stood there for several seconds just staring into it, like I used to do as a child when I was afraid of the dark. My mind told me that I could go forward, but my body stayed still, completely disobeying what my mind said.
I stared into the dark abyss of the hallway, and took a small step out of the classroom. I clicked the flashlight in my left hand on.
I twisted it to left, and sitting right beneath the window of the classroom was a sight my mind would never,
ever
forget.
