A sudden wave of pain hit throughout my body. My stomach feels like it's wrecked, while my arms lost all their energy and my legs began shaking from their weakness to carry my body any further.

I collapse, laying there, scattered across the floor, gasping for air after being released from the death grip on my neck.

"You bitch!" A croaked yelp escapes my dry lips as I get dragged by my silky dark brown hair. My trembling hands grasp the hold of my father's to lessen the stinging sensation before clawing him to release his grip.

Everything froze while I get thrown across the floor, my back on fire from the impact against the wall.

Before I could brace myself, heavy kicks fall throughout my body. A whimper leaves my lips as I helplessly cover myself from the blows. I hug my knees, waiting for the torture to end.

After what felt like hours, but a mere minute, my father kicked me one last time; his breath inconsistent as he spits on me.

My nose scrunched up at the wet, gooey saliva sprayed all over my hands and knees. Disgusting.

Tears slowly start to fall out of my eyes, droplets hitting the cold, hard floor. I hold back a sob as I meet the eyes of my mother's numbing glare through the strings of my hair.

I always used to question what I did wrong for them to treat me this way. Then I just realized they despised my existence for no reason. Always reminding me of how much of a disgrace I am through their actions and words. I really didn't expect any worse for my eighteenth birthday.

"Get out." She said to me. Her voice cold, monotone as if she's some sort of robot. "W-What?" My voice cracks as I swallow my saliva to ease my dry throat.

"You heard me, get out." Her eyes are as lifeless as a corpse. She got off the sofa and grabbed my bruised arm, pain radiating from the ironclad hold. She dragged my lifeless body to the door, all the energy sucked out of me from my father's beating.

A grunt left my lips from the impact on the moist grass from yesterday's shower. No matter how much I tried to move, everything felt numb. My mind, my body, everything. "Never come back again." I could barely catch what she said as she slams the door in front of me.

I gasp harshly as I frantically look around, my eyes darting from corner to corner until realizing it was just a dream. That was the last time I saw them, but it's better being homeless than living in that dump.

The moment you get out of your mother's womb, you'll be half-shifted for the first and last time. The doctors take that moment very seriously to examine what type of shifter you are and if you're prey or predator.

Society today is filled with different species, those who are mainly hunted, preys and those who hunt, predators. I am a rabbit, not sure if I got it from my father or mother. They never shifted in front of me, or so they never shifted at all. Being prey was the cause of abuse from my parents.

I take a deep breath before closing my eyes and laying my head against the cold hard wall. My eighteen birthday, huh. Me getting kicked out happened a few months ago, I think. I just strolled down the streets, trying my best to cover my bruises and find safe places to sleep. Sooner or later I began to steal to survive.

Honestly, I was more grateful than depressed that I got kicked out. Good riddance. Now I don't have to worry about the daily beatings. I wouldn't like to have more bruises anyway. The worst ones left scars.

I groan as my stomach whines for food. Yesterday wasn't a lucky day at all, all the prey I saw were either with a predator or just had nothing on them. I need to steal some money or else I'll starve to death soon. I know I'm underweight, I could tell. I'm all skin and bones, barely any fat.
