Chapter Two:

“Wait here for your master. He will be here shortly.” I was told by a squat old lady who looked like she was the world’s sweetest grandma.

“Yes ma’am. Thank you.” I said politely.

She nodded and looked around cautiously before stepping closer to me. “Be careful, girl. The prince may be nice now but things change. Don’t get yourself hurt.”

I pulled away from her. “What? Are you threatening me?”

“No! Not at all. But please, be careful, my dear. This is a world you don’t understand and I’d hate to see you get hurt.”

“I don’t understand…”

“He’ll use you. He’ll feed off of you and it’s hard to resist the lust you’ll feel when he’s doing it but don’t mistake that for love. Vampires don’t love humans. It’s just that simple. He’s your master and he’s allowed to use you however he likes and if that means-”

“Myrna, that will be all, thank you.”

She jumped back away from me quickly and spun around to face Marshall.

“Yes, your highness.” She sad, bowing her head to him.

“You may go now.” He dismissed her.

She scurried off down the hall, not looking back. I turned to Marshall. His chest was heaving and he looked a little disheveled.

“Are you ok?” I asked, standing up quickly.

“I’m fine. Follow me.”

I did so silently, taking note of his clenched fists and heavy footsteps.

“What happened?” I queried.

“Nothing.”

“You look angry. Are you angry?”

He sighed and turned around quickly, making me run into his. He put his hands on my shoulders and held me at arms length.

“Stop asking me questions. I told you it’s nothing. If you ask me again you’re gonna piss me off. Got it?”

“Yes, master…” I said, dropping my head.

“I told you, call me Marshall when we’re alone.”

I nodded and continued following him through the dimly lit halls until we stopped in front of tall dark double doors.

“This is my room. You will be staying here with me for as long as I can stand you. If you get on my nerves, you’ll have to move to the slave quarters. That’s something you don’t want so don’t get on my nerves.”

I was taken aback by his sudden change in mood. Just before in the car he was so sweet and kind but now… he was being a jerk.

“Yes, Master.”

“I told you-”

“I’m not calling you by your name if you’re being mean to me. I only call friends by their names and since, right now, you’re not being very friendly, I’m not calling you by your name.”

He rolled his eyes. “Whatever. I’ve had Myrna put in a crib for your son-”

“Mason. His name is Mason.” I said.

He sighed and stared at me, annoyed. “I had Myrna put in a crib for Mason so he’ll be nearby.”

“Ok.”

He unlocked the doors with a key kept on a gold chain around his neck and tucked into his shirt. He opened the doors I stepped aside to let me in.

Before I even had time to really look around the room, Mason started squirming and crying.
