"Only cowards hide behind silence." -Paulo Coelho
The fatal explosions never once did fail to send a rattling chill through my spine. The battlefield was a deathly arena with gun-fire and the sight of rotting corpses left with a war-cry face on them. The smoke obscured the enemy trenches in the distance, a strange aggressive language spouted out, but became quiet as they were granted eternal rest once I shot them on sight. Then more enemy's seemed to emerge from the mist. The crackle of gun fire in the pill box bursting to life. Bullets whistling by, hitting my teammates and dirt alike, covering the sludgy ground in a sticky red liquid deamed as blood. More enemies began to pounce out the mist like a pack of blood thirsty wolves. Me and my remaining team spraying rounds of hot lead into whatever we could hit.
"Y'know, your pretty bad at Call Of Duty." I jested, mumbling towards my elder sister Madeline, sitting in the corner of the couch curled into a tight ball. As if trying to fold in on herself and disappear. "You had no right to take the controller from me, I was getting there!" She scowled flicking my ear. "You threatened to kidnap a fourteen year old boy, and bury him in our backyard, for killing you." I said matter a factly.
"But he-"
"Was playing the game, you can't get mad at him for that." I chuckled, fingering the the tag on the blanket, shielding my back from the cold. "Tomato, tomahto. It's still a felony in like every state." I quirk an eyebrow at her. "No it's not." Madeline glanced at me, before flashing her famous 'who asked you' face. Where her cheeks hollowed in to show her adorable dimples, and her full pink lips stretch thin, as her brows shot up. I shake my head and breathe out in defeat, at her arrogance. Redirecting my attention to the current match I was in, it was a blood bath and my team was losing horrendously fourteen toforty-nine. But it was a fairly good few games before this one. "Y'know, I wouldn't have to sit here and play these stupid games with you, if you'd just bring some friends over once in a while. I mean-this house is just too big for the two of us."
My face flushes red. Just as I'm killed by a camping sniper, I drop my controller into my lap, and just stare at the game's snippet replay of the kill. Madeline should know that, asking certain things like her earlier question, upset me quite a bit. My annoyance was simply grief in disguise. I hated our discussions on such a pointless topic.
"No Maddie, I do not have any friends coming over anytime soon, if that's what you're asking. Besides, I don't see the problem in you and I-spending quality time together." I admitted weakly. I peek over at her, as the back of my head meets the couch cushion, I watch as her face drops at my remark and arms cross. "Well-why not? Since you've started school this year. I haven't yet seen you come home with not one friend!"
I sigh, cringing at the truth "Well, maybe I just don't want them over, touching my things," Lies. Madeline set a piercing gaze towards me, frustration clear on her face. "Look, I just- I-I don't want to talk about this right now." I whispered to her in defeat. I stood up from the couch and, proceeded to turn off the game console before walking off. "I'm just gonna get dressed for school now." I say and quietly leave the room.
