as he sang he felt his fear evaporate,
and lost himself in the moment.
driving along a coastal road drenched in golden sunlight,
shouting at the top of his lungs,
with the two people who meant the most to him in the world.
this was happiness.

he threw his arm around renjun
and they danced along to the song as best they could in the limited space,
jaemin watching through the rearview and laughing.

it was at that moment that they crashed into a signpost.

thankfully no one was hurt,
and the damage to the car wasn't too severe, but jeno knew he would have some explaining to do when he got home.
they got out, having coincidentally arrived at their destination.
jaemin apologised over and over again, swearing that it was all his fault, and he would never drive again.
jeno could tell that jaemin was feeling guilty, and was probably scared of his reaction.
he knew that jaemin got upset very easily, and was now starting to get worked up.

to calm him down (and shut him up),
jeno went up to him and wordlessly wrapped his arms around the younger boy,
reassuring him with his touch that he wasn't mad at him.
jaemin relaxed in jeno's embrace,
and they stood like this for a few moments,
comforted by each others' presence,
and feeling the sea breeze sweep across their faces.

they were interrupted by a "humph!"

looking round, jeno saw renjun,
who had been standing to one side and was looking left out.
impulsively, jeno grabbed renjun by the hand, and pulled the blushing boy towards him,
including him in the hug.

jeno could hear the crash of the waves.
he could hear the cry of seagulls.
but most of all,
he could hear his heart beating in a shared rhythm with jaemin and renjun.
and to jeno,
this sound was the most beautiful of all.
