Chapter 39

"Did you meet the guys sa school?" I asked.

"Yeah."

"Hmm... So super close kayo?"

"They're my brothers," he simply replied.

"You'll do everything for them talaga, no?"

Jasper didn't reply. I decided not to push the topic further. Hindi tanga si Jasper. I knew that he'd realize that something was definitely wrong with me...

"Can you fry eggs din, please?" I asked when he put the bacons on the plate. "Sunny side up."

Jasper rolled his eyes. "I'm not your cook."

"Kasi ako kaya nagluluto kanina. Inagaw mo 'yung—"

"Fine. Stop nagging," he said tapos kinuha niya na iyong egg. Tss. Arte nito, susunod din naman. Kaya ko naman kaya magluto! Siya 'tong laging princess ang trato sa akin. Did he really forget that I liked abroad for so long? Of course sanay ako magluto!

When Jasper finally finished cooking, naupo na kami. We said thanks before we began to eat. I wanted to ask him, but I was afraid that I'd say the wrong words... I just really wanted to enjoy this day without worrying too much about the near future...

"Do you have your schedule?" he asked.

"What schedule?"

"Your work."

I sipped my coffee. If... If I dump him, I'd have to let him go, too. Hindi ko kaya na makita siya araw-araw ng hindi kami okay... I didn't want him to leave my life, but what if it's the only way for Justin to stop messing with him?

"I don't know yet," I simply answered. "Jasper... kung hindi ka sa akin na-assign, sa tingin mo saan ka nagta-trabaho ngayon?"

He looked at me. I quickly smiled at him.

"I'm just curious," I added.

I wanted to make sure that he'd be fine... Ako? I know I wouldn't be fine... but that's the choice that I chose to take. I'd rather suffer alone than to put their lives in danger.

"Why?" he asked.

I shrugged. "Nothing. Kasi 'di ba sabi mo bad shot ka dahil namatay iyong anak ng Prime Minister? I'm just curious kung ano ang work opportunities mo."

Jasper's eyes never left me as he sipped his coffee. I love that he's able to eat around me now... Ang layo na rin pala ng narating namin... It broke my heart to know that this was as far as we'd reach...

Hanggang dito na lang siguro talaga...

Pero masaya ako na nakilala ko siya. No matter how short our time together was, I wouldn't deny that Jasper made me the happiest...

"I can try corporate," he said.

I arched my brow. "You? Corporate?"

He eyed me. "What do you take me for?"

"Grabe, offended ka agad?! I was just weirded out. Soldier ka tapos biglang corporate?"

"I studied business administration before I went to PMA, Siobhan Margarette. I'm not stupid."

"Hoy, I didn't say that! Napaka-sensitive mo talaga!"

He was still eyeing me. Grabe, I felt bad! Wala naman akong sinabi na ganon! 'Di ko lang talaga ma-imagine si Jasper wearing suit and tie! Mas feel ko talaga when he's in his soldier uniform!

"Why are you curious?" he asked again.

"Wala nga. Masamang ma-curious sa boyfriend ko?" I asked back, then watched as his ears started to grow red. Tsk. Ang daling kiligin ni First Lieutenant.
