Leah

Stepping outside the building and felt a warm breeze hit my already flustered red cheeks. I inhaled a deep breathe and released it all in one go. I was thankful for the fresh air as it helped calmed my racing heart just a bit. Also I was relieved that I didn't get stopped by Nate. Not like I gave him the opportunity to even try as I literally bolted down the hallway.

I might be overreacting, but after what happened two years ago I can't let myself fall back on old habits. I can't be the girl that was still pining over her guy best friend even after it was clear as day that he didn't feel the same.

The story? That was for another time.

"Are you going to let go?" A deep voice rang clear in my ear. Who?

I turned around to see Jace's eyes scanning me with amusement in his eyes. My eyes widen in horror. Oh my god. What did I do?

Leah, what the fuck did you do?

I automatically released his hand almost if my hand had touch a burning hot stove by accident. "S-sorry." I apologized genuinely. I didn't know why I grabbed him, maybe unconsciously I wanted his help to get me out of a very potentially awkward position with Nate.

Yup, I'll go with that. A one time gesture that Jace didn't even had a chance to agree to.

Jace arched his perfectly shaped eyebrow. Why is everything perfect on this guy? "You didn't seem so apologetic when you literally dragged me out here." He crossed his strong arms across his chest, almost in a defensive manner.

I unconsciously bit my bottom lip slightly trying to think of an excuse. It was a habit I used when my mind was running through thoughts as fast as lighting.

I noticed Jace's eyes land on my lips for a brief moment before they shot back up to my dark brown ones. It happened so fast, I had blinked I would have missed it. He cleared his throat like there was something caught in it. "Wanna tell me why I'm here?" He spoke smoothly.

That was weird.

I was currently racking my brain for an excuse. What do I say? Even I wasn't quite sure why I grabbed him and dragged him out here. What was I thinking?

Then it all came tumbling towards me like a ton of bricks. Could this actually work?

"I need your help with something." I told him. My nerves were sky high at the moment. How was I going to explain this? Come on, Leah. Do it.

This caught his attention as he perked up with curiosity "With?" He pondered. His hands moved from a defensive over the chest stance to be stuffed into the front pockets of his jeans. Almost as if he was willing to hear what I had to say.

"Uhh, Well. Uhm." I tried to start my sentence, but failed miserably. I tried to form my words, but as you can see nothing was piecing together as I would hope.

"Tate, I don't have all day." He said a bit aggravated. There goes that defensive side again.

My face scrunched up in confusion. "You know my last name?" I asked surprise laced in my voice. I never thought Jace paid attention to anyone. Never in a million years did I think he even knew who I was. I mean we've been going to school together since first grade, never in the same class so we didn't have much of any interaction with each other until now. I've always thought I was basically invisible to everyone else other than Kayla and Nate.
