Trains
I like trains
I like to watch them when it rains
Not that I’m making it my career
It’s just there’s nothing else to do around here
Sitting on the station wall
Beats any trip to a shopping mall
Peeking at them through the hedge
Or standing on the platform edge
I love it when they whoosh right past
My hair flying up, they go so fast
I like the noise upon the rails
You can’t say that about boats and sails
And even though the whistle’s gone
Their new horn sound is just as fun
Back and forth the same each day
I wonder if trains want to say
‘Set me free give me wings
Let me breathe; do other things’
Sometimes watching I feel bad
Locomotives look quite sad
It’s no fun being a train
I’d rather be a jet plane
Swooping down and soaring high
Free to roam the cloudless sky
Rising above cloudy rainfall
To forget the world exists
…at…all
