Keith X Reader:
In the world of Voltron, you have been recruited to be a part of the team after ending up in Altea. It's been almost a week. You've formed pretty close bonds with the team- espically Keith.
---
Three years. You've known for three years that the role of "male and female" don't vibe with you. It's not like you were being picky- not like you didn't want to be non-binary, but you are. Three years you've known and now it was time to accept it.
The team was all hanging out in the lounge area by the kitchen where Hunk and Lance were trying to deep-fry some weird cereal-like product that Coran bought a month ago and no one wanted to eat. It wasn't going well. Shiro was reading and Pidge was hanging upside down on the couch and eating grapes- er- something like grapes. They tasted a little sweeter and very slightly bigger.
There was nothing interesting on your screen. Boring news. The games were hardly fun, and it was running low on charge, which meant you would have to steal some energy crystals somewhere and you really didn't feel like that at the moment. You set down the tablet.
"Hey, Pidge-" You started.
Pidge looked over. "Yo-"
"What was it like- you know- pretending to be a guy for a while?"
Lance and Hunk had given up and sat down on Pidge's couch, stealing the space grapes.
Pidge sat up straight. "Honestly?" She sat and thought for a while.
"It was kind of awesome. No one on my flight teams looked down on me- I was just one of the guys."
One of the guys. You thought.
She continued, "Honestly, it was weird admitting that I'm a girl- I had gotten so comfortable non-conforming."
Lance ate a space grape and talked with his mouth full. He and Hunk had taken to seeing who could fit more in their mouths. They were tied.
"Ur Wer lik a hurbrid hurmn." He muttered.
"What?" You ask Lance. He swallowed.
"She was like a hybrid-human."
Pidge raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, I guess." She looked back at you. "Why do you ask?"
You shrugged. This would be difficult. The group would understand if you told them that you were non-binary- it wouldn't make a difference, right? Hmm.
"Just wondering." You shrug. Gross. Lying made you feel gross. Eventually everyone dispersed and you went to your room. Now your tablet was officially dead. Crap. You got up and made your way out to the hallway. You ran into Keith- literally.
"Sorry-" You apologized.
He smiled. "Yeah- no big. What are you up to?"
You hold up your tablet. "I need a charging crystal. I was coming to ask you if you had one."
Keith turned around. "Yeah, come on." He opened his door and pulled out the drawer in his bedside table. "Will this work?" He asked, holding up a blue shard of crystal.
"Thank you! I'm all out."
He grabbed another. "Yeah, take two then."
He passed them to you but now you were much closer than before... much closer. This again. A week ago you and Keith started spending more time together- in the lion hanger, the upside-down pool, even around the castle grounds. It was hard to tell if you were in the friend-zone or not, but you two spent a lot of time together- that was for sure. You ran your hand through your hand for a second and in that moment, he looked at you with so much love. Yes. It wasn't just your imagination.
Dinner was in an hour and you found Pidge training against holograms in the arena. She looked surprise to see you and turned off the projections. She grabbed her water bottle. "I know that you didn't just ask me that question today for no reason." She said.
"What question?" You asked.
"What it was like to be a guy back at flight school? I don't have gaydar or anything but I'm willing to take a guess that you're non-binary." She smiled. "I'm right- aren't I?"
You rolled your eyes, but give in. "Yep." You looked at her. "I just don't think that I can admit that to the team."
Pidge shrugged. "It's up to you." She said.
You bit your cheek, thinking. "What about Keith-"
"WHAT ABOUT KEITH?" Came a voice from the observation room above. Lance was holding the microphone and holding down the intercom button.
"Lance!" Pidge shouted.
"What are you doing up there?!" You shouted.
Lance grinned. "It makes me feel powerful. Also- does being non-binary mean that you're like a koala- you know, with the... both parts?"
You frown. "No, Lance. It means that I don't conform to gender- it means my gender is different- I'm not one or the other, I'm just... how I am."
"So, you can't reproduce by yourself?" Lance asked.
"Lance get out of the observation tower!" Shiro shouted. He was dragging Lance out of the room.
Pidge finished the water bottle- "Look- tell or don't tell- I'll stand behind you no matter what."
