The fire crackling in the fireplace warmed Everly, and for the first time in a long while
she didn't feel as on edge as she used to.

Bruce had brought her to Wayne manor,
not wanting her to wander around the city
by herself all night. He agreed to let Alfred watch over Selina that night as Alfred insisted that Bruce needed some rest himself.

They talked about almost everything
that night, in a certain way they hadn't
talked to each other since a little before
Bruce's parents died.

She told him about her constant battle with
the insanity gas, how she had been taken over by it yet again before she met him later. How she was supposed to go back to Jeremiah,
and that he probably was enraged by her
not showing up. Later on, she fell asleep in exhaustion, right in his lap.

As Bruce sat there surrounded by nothing
but the sound of the crackling fire, his eyes couldn't help but to wander down to her face,
a look of admiration on his own. He ran his fingers comfortingly through her hair,
it smelled like vanilla.

To say through all the years he had
known her he had never had feelings for
her would be a lie. It would be impossible
not to. Everything about her was so enchanting. Her smile, the way that she
cared so deeply about the world and every person within it regardless of if she knew
them or not, her whole personality.
Everything about her was just different.

Over the years he thought the crush
had faded away but as she laid there in his
lap he knew that it for certain hadn't faded
at all. Even though he knew he still had
strong feelings for Selina, his feelings
for Everly was hard to ignore.

He hated the thought of Jeremiah
having an upper hand on her, he was evil, manipulative and probably found Everly
an easy target, a pretty toy he could play
with until it broke. But, he already tried to break her by spraying her with the insanity gas, and she had been so strong.
He could see she was fighting it with
all her force.

He wanted to help, help her find a cure
so she could live the normal life she
so deeply deserves to have.

As Everly awoke on the sofa she noticed
Bruce's hands wrapped around her waist.
He was sound asleep. They must have
fallen asleep while talking last night.

She turned around so she was facing
him and she couldn't help but study his
face with a small smile. He had a cute
sleeping face.

"Bruce, wake up" She let out, shaking
him slightly.

"Mmh, what's the time?" He let out
sheepishly with a raspy morning voice.

She turned on her phone
to check. "it's ten"

He glanced over to his hands only to
see them wrapped around her, his eyes
widened.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to," He said
awkwardly as he removed them from
her waist, sitting himself up.

"It's okay" She chuckled lightheartedly,
putting one of her hands on top of his assuringly.

"I have somewhere to be, but if you want to come with me I wouldn't exactly be sad," He asked hopefully as he rubbed his neck.

The therapist in her couldn't help but
notice the rubbing of the neck. It meant
he was nervous, body language 101. Why though she didn't know.

"Sure, where are we going?"

"I have to meet the witch" He explained casually as he got up from the couch.

"The witch?" She asked with furrowed eyebrows, getting up too as she made
her way over to the mirror to make sure
she didn't look like she just woke up.
