Chapter One
I nod my head and open the door. I feel ashamed. I shouldn't be wasting this guys time. Also I am soaked. Yep I feel bad. He puts the car into gear and starts to drive off to Washington.
I feel the awkwardness start to kick in.
It seems like he felt it too, cause he starts to talk.
"So why are you heading to Washington at this hour?"
Feeling shy, and scared I manage to say a few words.
"A new start, you?"
What else was I going to say? I might as well tell the guy the truth.
"Get some stuff off my mind, couldn't think,"
"Oh"
I'm not that much of a talker, but I can manage. It goes quiet for a little while and I feel the urge to talk.
"So why me?"
It's a weird question, but I want to know why he stopped.
I look over at him to try find a answer, when I realize he is gorgeous. Brown hair, looks tall, and looks slim. My type.
"What do you mean, 'why me?' "
"Why did you pick me up? For all you know I could be a killer, and I ran away from the cops. You never know,"
He gives a small smile and looks over at me, "cause I don't think a killer would be a girl smiling at a sign, with a backpack on her back. And I chose you because you look nice and friendly. And I couldn't leave a beautiful girl in the rain,"
I smile, I haven't had a real smile in a Long time.
"What's your name? You look kinda like a Charlotte?"
A give a small laugh, "close, it's Charlie. Nothing special."
"A beautiful name for a beautiful girl"
I smile again, "what's yours? You look like a, hmm, a Cody? I'm bad at these"
He laughs, "Tanner. Just a little off" he uses his index and thumb finger to give a small space.
I laugh, this could actually be a start, to a new friendship.
"So where are you headed?"
"No where, just had to get away."
"You could stay at my place, yunno until you have enough money to get your own place"
I lighten up and look at him.
"Your serious? But that would he to much! I don't want to intrude, and why would your family think! I couldn't do that,"
"Who said I live with family? I got a little apartment, it's not much. But it could do! And I have a extra bedroom, so you could always stay there."
"If it's not much, can I?"
I feel bad, like really bad. I will owe him. But I will make it up to him.
"Of course! And plus I was getting a little lonely."
I look at him and smile. A new start and a new beginning.
