Chapter 2:

Conner’s POV:

I’d never known any troublemaker as bad as Ryan. My brother caused trouble wherever he was, including on the staircase while we walked through the house, towards the meeting room.

Ryan suddenly stopped in the middle of the stairs, causing me walk straight into him. I was about to ask him, (in a rather rude way), why he was stopping, but he had already picked down a painting from the wall.

“Do you think I can keep it?” he asked, while he glared at the picture. I couldn’t see it properly, but I was pretty sure it was one of those stupid paintings of a fruit table.

“Keep it? Are you completely mad?” I asked, rather shocked. “Wait, don’t answer the last question.” Only Ryan could get the stupid idea to steal a painting from a formal meeting place.

“Of course I’m not mad! This would look great in my room,” he objected, and gave me a ridiculous smile.

“You listen to me right now, Ryan” I began, while I gave him a murderous glare. “Either you get that picture back on the wall, or I’m gonna convince Killian to make you my sparring partner on Monday!”

Killian was in charge of our training, and he would listen to me if I asked him. If we sparred together, I would probably beat the shit out of him. I was the soon-to-be Alpha, after all, and even though Ryan had alpha blood, he still didn’t have any chance of beating me, partly because he had turned for the first time a month ago. I could see that my threat worked, since Ryan instantly got pale. “You wouldn’t!” he said, but we both knew I would.

“Get the picture back on the wall,” I said, and started jogging towards the meeting room. “We’re late!”

We reached the right corridor a few minutes later, after two wrong turns, and a minor fight. Ryan had insisted on leading the way, even though he hadn’t been here before. At last I had managed to convince him into following me, and we got to the right place.

I opened the first door I saw, and almost walked straight into a laundry room. I couldn’t understand why it was a laundry room in a place where nobody lived, but I didn’t comment it, and closed the door before Ryan decided to wash his jeans, or anything like that.

Ryan chuckled lightly, before he opened the next door. The scent from the inside was unbelievable.

Have you ever been seriously hungry, and walked past a restaurant? Hungry like when your stomach is hurting, and you fell like haven’t eaten in days? And then the smell comes. Your whole body just starts to scream after the food, and your mind doesn’t wanna wait a single minute to get hold of it? This scent made me feel that way, only worse. It wasn’t only my stomach who wanted it, my whole body was calling out for the source of the scent. It made my heart beat faster and my wolf go insane. I almost pushed Ryan inside, in my hurry to find the source of the scent. No matter what it was, I knew that I needed it.

I instantly searched the room once I had gotten inside. I saw my parent, (who seemed to be in the middle of the usual polite talk with Robert and Rose), and Tyler, their son. Of course, he looked as though he could be his father’s twin. They had both turned immortal after reaching eighteen, after all. Tyler and I had a quite good relationship, but today he didn’t have my attention. The girl beside him had.

She was unbelievably short. Her hair was dark, and her hazelnut eyes made me melt. Her skin was pale, which only made her seem more vulnerable. She was just adorable!

My wolf got so excited that I almost couldn’t control him.

“Mate!” he growled. I didn’t realize that I had spoken out loud, before everybody reacted. Rose gasped, and my parents turned and looked at me like I had just confessed my love for a bottle of tequila. Robert looked mostly like I had hit him in the head with a bible.

“Really Conner, a Vampire?” Ryan asked. He sounded amused. I turned for a moment, with a murderous look in my eyes.

“Don’t ever disrespect my mate!” I thought, using my mind link. Ryan had, (for once), the sense to not answer.

I turned, and took a step forward, towards my beautiful mate. It seemed like this brought Tyler back to the world, and he reacted in a way that REALLY pissed me off.

He pushed my mate behind him, like she was some sort of toy, and his glare towards me was so aggressive that I almost took a step backwards. “You better stay the hell away from her!” he snarled.

My mind was raging, and I didn’t have the sense, (or willpower), to hold back my wolf. I lounged forwards, and sent Tyler flying through the air without hesitating. No one would stand between me and my mate. I looked at the girl for a second, before I pushed her against the wall, and kissed her fiercely.

“Conner, now is not the time!” my father said, using our mind link.

“Kill him, he’s disturbing us!” my wolf growled. He was one of the more murderous types. I chose to ignore them both, and continue the kiss.

“Conner!” my father said. He was really starting to annoy me. Couldn’t he understand that he was ruining the moment? For a moment I seriously considered to take my wolf’s advice.

“She is our mate!” I objected. I didn’t want to let her go.

“CONNER!” He was shouting now. I’d never really understood how he could shout using the mind link, but he was pretty good at it. He even used his alpha voice, meaning I couldn’t ignore him. He wasn’t asking. He was commanding.

So I let go of the girl, and took a step backwards. I still couldn’t take my eyes away from her, though. She was just so perfect!

“You can’t let them take her away, father!” I hated how pleading my voice sounded, but I couldn’t help it. I needed her by my side. My father looked at me for a moment, before he nodded in agreement.

“Well, this is a rather pleasant surprise” My father said, and gave Robert a smile that would have sent shivers down my spikes if it was meant for me. It was his “I have a proposal, and don’t you dare refuse it” smile.

“Yes, very… pleasant” Robert replied. For some reason I got a feeling that he had another word than “pleasant” on his mind. He seemed to be on guard. He had obviously seen my father’s “proposal smile” before.

“This does, after all, make our deal much simpler” my father continued, untouched by Robert’s missing enthusiasm.

Robert frowned a bit, before he answered. “Why would you say that?”

“Because your daughter is coming with us,” my father said. “Or we won’t have any deal!”
