People don't realise how awkward things can be, you spend 6 months away from the person you love and everything changes. Sure, you can hope things will be okay but it's awkward trying to get back into routine. It's like a competition to impress, you always want to be better than the other person.

And that's what it was like for Emily and Daniel. Who would cook dinner? Who would bathe the baby? Who would clean the house? It became a race to see who could do what first. It was awkward between the two of them, and so Daniel decided to take her out to dinner. He took her into the city for the night and for the first time in a while they enjoyed themselves.

"I've missed this," Emily smiled taking another sip of her champagne.

"I've missed it too. I've missed everything," Daniel replied.

"Meg's missed you most. She would never go to sleep for me like she did with you."

Daniel smiled and stood up as Emilys phone started ringing. She answered and looked up at Daniel.

"Conrad?"......"Is she okay?"......."If you give her a dose of medicine she should calm down."......."Actually we will just come home."......."No really we were nearly done. We will be home in 10."......"Goodbye Conrad."

Emily sighed and looked up at Daniel.

"Your dad thinks Meg's coming down with a fever. He said she was okay but I could hear her screaming in the background. We should go to her."

"I'll just get the bill and we can go."

"I can get it," she replied standing up with her purse.

"No it's fine, let me get it."

"Daniel I've got it."

It was a competition to see who would pay the bill, when in truth no matter who paid the money was coming out of their joint account.

"The money will just come out of our main account anyway, so it doesn't matter who pays."

"Exactly," Daniel replied. "I've got it."

He walked off to the register and Emily sighed and sat back down. They were arguing over who would pay all of $50 for dinner. She rubbed her temples and closed her eyes before a familiar voice caused her to look up.

Daniel finished paying and walked back to the table to come face to face with the man he hated most. Emily saw the anger in Daniels eyes and instantly feared what he might be thinking.

"Daniel I swear I didn't know he was hear," she fretted.

"We should go," he replied helping her stand up and then turning to face James. "If you know what's good for you, you'll stay away from my wife."

Emily stood awkwardly behind Daniel until he turned around and led her out of the restaurant; still fuming with anger.

"Daniel please talk to me," Emily begged as they got into the car.

"We have nothing to talk about," he replied harshly.

"You're angry."

"Of course I'm angry. We have just gotten back together and then we just happen to run into him."

"Don't sound so sarcastic. I already told you I didn't know he would be there."

"That doesn't prove anything! I wouldn't know if you were lying or telling the truth! I was clueless enough to not realise your affair, you could lie to me and I wouldn't even know it."

He sighed angrily and looked out the window as Emily pulled up at the manor. She didn't say anything, she was angry that he didn't trust her. So she got out, and bent down to him.

"Go home. I'll get your dad to drive me home. I've had enough talking to you."

She slammed the door and walked inside. Daniel knew he had been wrong to get so angry at her, but she needed time and he knew that. He got into the drivers seat and drive down the highway to the house.
