ROWAN P.O.V.

A few minutes later, we got back to the church, but it wasn't like how we left it.

There were kids everywhere screaming.

And let's not forget the fact that the church was on fire.

☾

Ponyboy didn't even wait for Dallas to stop the car, he just ripped his hand apart from mine and jumped out of the car. 

Pony started running towards the church, and the worst part is he was going inside. 

There was a fat guy who I guessed was the monitor. He tried to stop Pony, but to no avail.

"What's he doing?" Dallas yelled over the ruckus.

"He's going in to save those kids, and I'm following." Johnny said, also getting out.

"Wait up!" I yelled, also running after them.

Johnny stopped me.

"No Rowan, it's too dangerous I don't want you to go in there. If anything were to happen to you, I don't think I could ever forgive myself." He spoke, trying to convince me to get back in the car.

"No Johnny. This is as much my fault as it is yours. If I help it'll be over sooner. I'll be careful. Promise." I pleaded him.

"Fine, let's go." he agreed, and we started sprinting over to where Pony was. He broke down a wall and we entered the burning church.

There was smoke everywhere and we could barely see where we were going, so we just followed the sound of the kids screaming.

It was hot like hell in the church, and I couldn't help but think about how I was going to have a nice cold shower when I got back home.

We entered the room where the screams were coming from and saw a bunch of children huddled up.  

I picked one of them up and kicked the wall down. Dallas was on the other side of the wall and took the kid from my hands, setting him on the safe ground.

Johnny and Pony followed my lead, grabbing kids and shoving them out of the wall.

From the corner of my eye I saw a kid bite Pony and I couldn't help but laugh. I wish I hadn't though, because some smoke started coming in my mouth, and I breathed it in. I started coughing a little too.

We had finally gotten all the kids out but I couldn't move. I was coughing and couldn't walk.

 Ponyboy grabbed me and he handed me over to where Dallas was, making sure to be extra careful with me, unlike the kids he carelessly shoved out. 

As soon as Dally set me on the ground, I tried to look around making sure Pony was okay. I felt really dizzy though, and soon enough I couldn't really take it anymore. 

My vision went black, and I passed out.

When I woke up, I realized I was lying on some bed type thing. My eyes cracked open, and I realized I was in an ambulance. Soon enough, panic filled every ounce in my body.
