Chapter 20: Afterwards

I was leaning on Aiden since he was at the end of the couch. I looked at him, “What?” He asked. “Nothing, I was just laughing at them, cause they are cute. Don’t you think?” He nods, “Yeah. Adam has been after her since the beginning of school.” He moved his body to where he was leaning against the arm rest and I was leaning against his body. “Well I’m happy for them.” He nods.

     “Nahh my dude this part always gets to me.” Adam said. It was the part when Prince Hans told Anna he didn’t love her, when she thought he did. I laugh, “For real, like there are any spices in the cabinet and he choice to be salty.” Aiden adds. I laugh again, with Beth joining me. I’ve never heard him say something like that. “You guys are weird.”

   

      Olaf comes in and talks about love and how Kristoff was coming back because he loved her.  “Aww, don’t you love Olaf.” I said. I look up at Aiden and he was laughing at me. “Go Kristoff, Go.” Adam was yelling at the TV. Kristoff was riding down the hill trying to get to Anna before she turned to ice. Elsa was trying to get to Anna too, but it was too late. “Move trick, he gonna cut your head off.” Adam yells. “Adam hush.” Aiden laughs.

     Adam gets up and takes out the CD. “Well wasn’t that great?” I shake my head, laughing. “You were talking through the whole movie.” He waves me off, “You’ll be okay.” I look at the clock and I’m surprised Kyle hasn’t cried. “Well I had fun, but I gotta go home.” I get up and grab my stuff.  “Bye Boo, text me when you get home.” Beth hugs me good-bye. “Aiden are you going home or are you staying here?” I asked him. He stretches, “I’m getting tired, but let me take Kyle off your hands tonight,” He offers.

     “Tomorrow you can come by and sleep over and we can take care of her together.” I shrug, “Okay, but do you think that will be a good idea with your parents there?” He waves off my question. “Do you want to come by tomorrow?” He asked again. I sigh, “Yeah sure Aiden I’ll come by.” He takes Kyle and walks out the door. He gets into his car and I get into mine, and we both drive off.

    That night it was quiet when I was falling asleep. I stared up at my ceiling, wondering what was going on with Aiden. Was he talking to his parents? As he already talk to them? Did he actually talk to them or did he lie to me? Is he okay? Is Kyle crying or was she asleep? Did is parents even consider what he had to say? Are they going to leave again or stay? And so forth, my mind wouldn’t stop wondering what was happening with him. I turned over and groaned. I grabbed my phone and dialed.

   “Hey it’s Aiden, if you called and we’re friends, I’ll call you back. If you called and we’re not, don’t expect a call.” His voicemail said. I scoff, “Nice voicemail.” I say out loud. I roll over and set my phone down. I close my eyes and hope that I can have a peaceful sleep.

  When I got to school I was determined to know what went on with Aiden and his parents. He hasn’t texted or called me since I called him last night. I took a risk and got up early to see if I could catch him at his football practice. It would be crazy, because either I was wrong and he didn’t have practice and I came to school early for nothing, or he just wasn’t here. I park my car and sit for a second. Chewing on the granola bar I stole from my mom; I was praying he would be here, because I’m tired.

    I ran to the field to see no one. “Are you fucking kidding me?” I yell. “I knew this shit would happen!” I was beginning to walk back and sit in my car when I heard a bunch of hollering of our school chant. I turn around and see the team running out on the field, to avoid getting trampled I run to the bleachers and wait. Aiden, Adam, and Seth were the last to run out. “So I was like no I don’t want you, get out of my house and so she like grabbed my dick and staring to you know and I couldn’t stop her after that. It was too good.”  I heard Seth say. I fake gag, so fed up with him. Stepping around the corner, I make myself noticed. “Hey…” They stop and look at me. “Nia what are you doing here?” Aiden says.

    “She coming to get the D, I knew once you put it down on her she wasn’t gonna stop.” Seth said. Adam punches him in the arm. “Shut the fuck up Seth.” I glare at him, but look back to Aiden. “I need to talk to you.” He nods, “Tell the coach I’ll be out there in a little.” Adam and Seth leave us alone. “Mrs. Xavier has Kyle right now, if that’s what you’re wondering. I didn’t want to leave her out here.” I shake my head. “No, that’s not it. Did you um…did you talk to your parents last night?” I come out and said. He slowly nods, “I did and it didn’t go like expected.” I instantly frown. “What happened?”  I take a step forward, feeling like I should automatically comfort him.

   “Thomas! Hurry up!” The Coach yelled. Aiden looked at the coach and nodded. “I’ll tell you at lunch. How about IHOP?” I shake my head. “That’s too far.” “I’m really feeling some eggs and chocolate milk, just skip with me.” Is he stupid or dumb? “I’m not skipping with you, are you crazy?” he laughs, “I have to go, but you’ll give in. You always do.”

   “Oooh I want to go too!” Beth said. We were in the bathroom before school started and I told her about skipping and going to IHOP. “Are you stupid or dumb too? You know I’ve never done that before.”

“Give me your chapstick,” I pass her my red lip balm out of my purse. “And it’s easy. All you do is go to lunch and not come back.”

I purse my lips, looking at her. “My mother will kick my ass for skipping.” I take the round Chap Stick back from her. “It’s one time, let loose and eat a stack of pancakes.” I shake my head. “I don’t know.”
